Look, when the season started, none of us thought this team had a chance to win many games. That they had a better record than all but 3 teams at one point--including the not-so-beloved Yankees--was a miracle, even for the small sample of games played at the time.

Sure, with the extra Wild Card spot it appeared the Mets were actually close to it. But things in the rear view mirror are larger than they appear. It just wasn&#039;t realistic.  With an awful bullpen, needing another starting pitcher or 2, slow afoot, catchers who couldn&#039;t throw out Keith Hernandez running today (or former Met Jason Phillips, quite possibly the slowest Met of all time).....well, they&#039;re not as bad as I thought they&#039;d be......but they&#039;re not as good as some have given them credit as being.

These are not &quot;must win&quot; games.  We need to win as many games as possible to be a fairly respectable team and continue building.]]></description>
