Amazins Put On Early Fireworks Show In 11-1 Phillies Beat-Down!

On the eve of the Fourth of July, the Mets bats exploded for fifteen hits tonight and beat up the Philadelphia Phillies 11-1 in a sold out Citi Field.

Jon Niese pitched a gem of a game going a full eight innings and holding the Phillies to just one run on three hits while striking out three. Niese has stepped it up big time and has won his last three starts for the Mets.

The Mets knocked Vance Worley around like a rag doll, torching him for ten hits and six runs in his four innings of work. The Phillies bullpen offered no relief as they combined to give up another five runs.

Daniel Murphy busted out with a four hit night including two doubles, a triple and four RBIs. He is off to a spectacular month in July.

David Wright had a four-RBI night as well with three of them coming on a mammoth three-run homer in the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Phillies.

Josh Thole had three hits and scored a couple of runs, and even Niese had a pair of hits and two runs scored as the bottom of the batting order had an awakening of sorts.

Just an incredible all-around effort by the Mets tonight who combined great pitching and sharp defense with a powerful offensive display to open up their three-game set with the Phils.

Lets do this again tomorrow!

The Mets will send RHP Chris Young (2-1, 3.30 ERA) to the mound to take on LHP Cliff Lee (0-5, 4.13 ERA) in a 1:10 PM start.

It’s only one game, and it doesn’t count anymore than any of the rest. But…I will always love beating the Phillies. The scoreline will only help to make me sleep better tonight.

Nice win tonight. Mr Tejada what can be said for the way he has played this season but Wow.

Murphy continues to hit with a 4 hit night but the man of the evening was Jonathon Niese with a great 8 inning 3 hit 1 run allowed effort and what made it even better was he was backed up by some great defense behind him.

Happy 4th of July to everyone. Enjoy the day.

A win is a win and playoff spots could be determined by one game so everygame is important for a resilient team like Mets to show they are for real.
When Mets were hurting and missing players no one worried about them so Phillies can worry about themselves cause they are on wrong side of 30!

Look at that play by Utley at 2B, maybe he thought in the universe play might save him and get call at 2B.
