I guess you guys don't really remember that series in Houston all too well...

Acosta cost them the first game...
Niese had one horrible day
Schwinden wasn't up to the task of matching their best pitcher...

You can hardly blame the rest of the team for that!

Again the back of the rotation was all that pitched in that series. The back of the rotation has not been able to get much past the 6th inning requiring that pen to come in where they blow games even if the back rotation guy did well.

Bottomline Houston is a Pitchers park and the back of our rotation (incl a AAAA Emergency start callup) was no match for thier top two pitchers!
And the one guy who was (Gee) left the game tied only to have the Pen give it up!

You could be right on that. I just felt the way they won the last game in Colorado with Helton and CarGo both hitting HR to bring Colorado back... when the Mets won it seemed like they felt invincible in Houston. Like they took it for granted.

I just hope they build on the success in Tampa rather than harp on it

Jessup, I alwats looke forward to your entries, they are my favortite. That said, I just differ on one point, I think after the Rockies series the Mets were looking past Houston and get bit in the backside for doing so. They know the Reds are a good team, and I'm expecting the Mets to be up for this series.
Great post though as usual.

Well it would seem we are a .500 team whenever the backend of our Rotaion pitches and the fact we have a winning record and win series depends on us starting either Dickey and Santana at some point in the series.

Thats not really a knock on Young Gee or Niese as on thier own they have pitched well for the most part but each of them seems to require going to that coin flip of a Bullpen who has issues sealing the deal.

These guys need to extend and get to the 7th and the team needs to score more runs so they can have the ability to economize thier pitches without fear of giving up the lead so easily.

Now that Ike Davis appears to be hitting again lets hope that happens.
