Rauch Out With Elbow Soreness, Ramon Ramirez Placed On DL, Jack Egbert Cut

The Mets have placed Ramon Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring. Miguel Batista has been activated from the disabled list, and will take Ramirez’s place on the active roster.

Ramirez was the key player in the deal that sent Angel Pagan to San Francisco and was part of the revamped bullpen the Mets focused their effort and financial resources in the offseason.

The right-hander has appeared in 22 games this season and has a 4.78 ERA and 1.56 WHIP for the Mets.

Additionally, the Mets officially promoted RHP Chris Young from Triple-A Buffalo and added him to the 40 man roster. To make room for Young, the Mets have designated RHP Jack Egbert for assignment.

Egbert, 29, appeared in one game for the Mets and registered two quick outs. The Staten Island native was 2-3 with a 2.08 ERA in 26 innings pitched for Triple-A Buffalo this season.

Adam Rubin had an update on Jon Rauch, who was diagnosed with debris in his elbow, and will miss the series against the Nationals.

Rauch, 33, signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal during the offseason to take over as the Mets’ primary setup man, but the results have been disappointing to say the least. he leads the team with five losses and three blown saves. In 26 appearances spanning 22.2 innings he has a 4.76 ERA.
