Does it really matter between Wheeler or McHugh who gets promoted first to AAA? If it is McHugh, you know they will make room for Wheeler too not long after. Dylan Owen should be permanently moved to the bullpen because as a starter….why is he still even in there?

Now that you have that straightened out,can you take care of the Mets bullpen? Is Mejia Beato and Edgin going to stay in Buffalo the rest of the year? Or can we give Rauch,Ramirez and Batista travel tickets out of town.

McHugh is older and more experienced, than Wheeler. He is very deserving of the promotion and I wish him the best of luck, eventhough Wheeler has been the more dominant of the two this season, He also will be promoted soon..Lets go Mets

I don’t know why everyone is up in arms about putting Mejia in the bullpen. A lot of talented prospects have started their major league careers in the bullpen, and went on to have very successful careers as starters.

Look at Chris Sale for example, he pitched out of the bullpen most of last year, and now as a starter this season, he’s tied in the AL in Wins and leads the league in ERA and WHIP. I’d say pitching in relief didn’t hurt his development.

Also the pitcher the Mets are facing tonight, David Price, pitched out of the bullpen in his first season up here – He’s turned out fine as well.

So, I really don’t get the big deal here. This has been done before, and results have been good for the most part.

I think that making a reliever out of Mejia is short sighted and stupid. Beato could have done the same thing for the Mets without sacrificing Mejia’s development.

Is there something wrong with this starting 5 for AAA?
Matt Harvey, Jeurys Familia, Mejia, Wheeler, McHugh?

Both of these guys will not make it as starters. Garrett Olson, and Dylan Owen and are just taking space in the rotation.

McHugh has an even better curveball than Gee believe it or not. He could be a sleeper.

McHugh reminds me a lot of Dillon Gee and Chris Schwinden.

They were all never ranked highly on any prospects list. All of them throw right handed and don’t have overpowering stuff, but despite that, they all had success in the minor leagues. They were also all late round draft picks too.

Hopefully McHugh turns out to be more like Gee(who’s been pitching very well his last few games) than Schwinden( I believe he’s with the Indians organization now.)

I agree. Good points made here Pete. McHugh should most likely be the next pitcher called up to AAA. If I had to guess i’d say so long as Wheeler continues to pitch well I think he will be promoted sometime closer to the AA ASG July 10th.
