Your continual whining about this on a Mets blog just makes me that much more happier that when we finally accomplished the first no hitter in franchise history – it was at home in Citi field, with 2-time CY award winner Johan Santana on the mound, against the World Series Champion ST. Louis Cardinals.

A lot of pitching achievements like No Hitters and Perfect games included bad calls…
Some in the pitcher’s favor some costing him the accolade…

It’s a part of the game!

Many think Larsens last strike to notch the perfect game was low…
Humber’s No NO also had a bad call on Strikes…

The you have the not perfect, perfect game of Galarraga
Our closest chance before this included Gooden on a bad play at 3rd that was scored a hit despite it clearly being an error.

Still goes down in the record book as the result it was and there is no changing that fact so you had better learn to deal with it!

For the rest, including MLB – it was a no hitter.

The game of baseball includes the human element, which includes the umps. You want to start picking apart games, looking at balls called that were really strikes, strikes that were really balls, bang-bang plays that on replay appear to have been the wrong call, etc……..all games would be questionable. Good luck with that.

That’s baseball – pure and simple. It was a no hitter, period.
Whining about it just sounds like sour grapes.

I checked the boxscore and there weren’t any hits in the Cardinals hit column. Sorry he pitched a no hitter and it’s in the elias sports bureau records.

If the roles were reversed I’d be saying the same thing. The Cardinals are NOT the best offensive team in the NL. They were early on but they haven’t been for weeks. In fact they are one of the worst in the past two weeks so the Met’s can stop pretending they stopped some big powerhouse because the didn’t. Yes Santana threw a good game, but it not a no-hitter. Just another good game like many pitchers do everyday.

Look, if roles were reversed and Wainwright was the one with the no-hitter, you wouldn’t be saying that bullshit. Jim Joyce blew the Armando Galarraga perfect game, but guess what? Galarraga doesn’t have a perfect game! Mistake or not (even though it was), what matters is that in the history books, Johan Santana is marked down as having a no-hitter. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! To do it against the best offensive team in the NL AND defending World Champs? Even sweeter. Tip your hat to Santana because your team wasn’t gonna touch him otherwise!

There was no no-hitter thrown in this game. The only history that was made here was the blown call by the umpire that turned a one hitter into a no-hitter that should never have been. I think it’s terrible that Met’s fans are actually accepting this as a no-hitter. I had hoped those fans would have been able to understand the difference for the history of the game.

Wow! Wow! Wow! And i missed the game! i live and work in Chicago but see most Mets games on MLB.com on my laptop BUT i missed tonight!!!!!! I was following the game on my I-Phone with ESPN sports alerts and was happy the Mets were winning but expected (just because) the no-hitter to get dashed. Thank God, i was wrong!!
Been devouring every word and pic and i’ll see it today. Congrats Johan!!!!!! I was a doubter he’d even contribute this year and he’s been great and pitches our 1st 0-0-0!!!!!!!!!! Awesome.
i too sense this year is ‘different’. i like this team!! Here’s hoping Mike Bater is okay—a great story there, too!

Why don’t you take a page out of Carlos Beltran’s book? Even he said the umps calls are a part of the game, he called it as he saw it at the time. Carlos went on to say that one hit wouldn’t have made any difference – that they needed runs and they weren’t getting any.

There is nothing you can say to take away from that dominating performance by Johan Santana last night.

Go back to your Cardinals blog where you might find some sympathy.
