This week was a great week for Ike, and a much needed one. He has seemed to have fixed his approach at the plate, has a better swing now, and is breaking out of this slump. And now, a message from GameDay Goods!
Gameday Goods is proud to sponsor this week’s Mets Merized Online Player of the Week – Ike Davis. Ike had a solid weekend swinging a hot bat going 3-9 at the plate. Ike has been turning it on as of late as he has increased his batting average from.161 to .194 in the past ten days and that is why Ike Davis is this week’s Player of the Week.

This is great to see, finally!!! Good For Ike, means good for the NY Mets and better for the NY Mets fans!
Bout time the real Ike Davis showed up. As the season wears, hopefully him & Duda will lead the charge in the lineup when it comes to needing power. We sorely need it from them.
I’ve got two words to describe this weeks player of the week. DEAD WRONG! Sorry.
R.A. Dickey should have been the player of the week. Ike is just starting to come back around and I think that RA is more fitting because of his back-to-back complete game one-hitters. More deserving that Ike.
Are you a bonehead? You cant use and combine stats from two different weeks to award player of the week. Dickey threw a shutout last week and one this week. Davis batted .450, you’re the one that’s dead wrong.
Hey Maxx, no need for the name calling here man. Just stating my opinion. If you don’t like it, thats fine. Just take it easy on the name-calling boss. Thanks!
Ike needed a big week. He really did. I am glad he is finally getting back to normal.
yah not really sure why Dickey’s 1 game was better than Ike’s week? Plus Ike needed a big week.
Unless a pitcher has at least 2 starts or 3 appearances in relief, I find it hard for them to be “player of the week” unless they throw a no hitter obviously
I’m going to give Tyler the benefit of the doubt and assume this was written before last night’s game.
Last week he said he goes by MLB rankings and last night’s game probably did not make it onto the MLB site until today.
So I can see how Ike got in ahead of Dickey based on the when he actually wrote and submitted the article.
The Player Of The Week post is written Monday mornings and does not take into account the Monday games, those go on for the next week.
As thought Tyler…
Dickey will probably get another start this week so chances are good he is already half way home towards winning the title next week…Unless Ike hits 10 HRs over that time! LOL
Wait, when did Andres Torres win player of the week?!? Also, it’s gotta be Dickey this week. On ANY OTHER WEEK of the year, it would be Davis, but two one-hitters? Can’t ask for much more than that.
I think you should put a week ending date in your post. Like for week ending Sunday, June 17.
I usually include what games are included in the Player of the Week decision, I just forgot to this week.
Don’t sweat it Tyler….They just nitpicking because they can! LOL
Yeah. They BOTH had fantastic weeks.
Congrats Ike Davis. Welcome to the club.
I missed it did Ike hit the GS in the minors last night, I thought that was where everyone on this sight had sent him
Everyone except me! LOL

That’s right Metsie,
Good call. Let’s see how many of those people come back and apologize to you.
A lot of people now have egg on their face and at your expense most notably the slimy double-talking weasel. Everybody knows that Ike and Ruben are my guys and even I was open to the idea of sending Ike down for a bit – but was not vocal at all about it. If this kid is permanently back on track he’ll become a big time clutch hitter and leader for this club like I always believed right from the beginning.
Bay i certainly won’t hold my breath waiting for any apologies! LOL
As Vinny B can attest to….
I said as early as late April Early May that what was happening to Ike was similar to what happened to Beltran when he missed a significant amount of time.
Beltran being an even more accomplished and experienced batter took two months of medoza line ABs in 2010 before he started to get back to hitting like his old self.
He missed a full year where Ike only missed the majority of one but both had not seen MLB pitching for many many months and I’m sorry but you don’t just step into a batters box against MLB pitching and expect to hit exactly where you left off.
Took two months for an accomplished hitter like Beltran to start seeing the pitches better and adjusting to the speed and it took Ike 2 and a half months to seemingly get on track.
Bottomline is good hitters don’t become bad hitters overnight.
There is always an underlying reason for them struggling. And the Minor leagues may be good for preparing kids to face the challenges they will face in the MLB merely because they will play against guys who will eventually get to the MLB.
But if you have a problem hitting MLB pitching, the only solution is to learn to hit MLB hitting!
If we had sent Ike down he might have had this current hitting streak a week or two sooner…But it would not do a thing to help the MLB squad!
And then he would be brought up only to have to make up the two weeks vs MLB pitching he lost!
It’s always best to fix the problem where the problem is ocurring!
Cause at least then you will know if it’s really fixed or not!
Only if they could not fix it should sending him down have been an option!
And as I said in the comments…if he still was not hitting by the end of June then it would be time to send him down.
Cause by then confidence would be a bigger problem than being used to MLB pitching.
Can we just pump the brakes a tad on the “I was right Ike is back” stuff?
For starters whether he is back today or not, he still hurt the team offensively for quite some time.
Secondly, I refuse to say he’s “back” when he’s still hitting under .200.
Do I hope he’s back? Absofrigginlutely. Am I declaring he is back? No way. Right now it’s a streak.
He has to turn into a consistent player, not a streaky player.
Right now we have 2.5 months counting against him and 9 days for him. I need more than 9 days to trust that he is back
LOL….
What you should be apologizing for is not if he is back or not but for the fact you thought it couldn’t be done here and had to be done in the Minors.
Your method would only delay the time before he started helping…My way he helped you win two games this week alone!
But it’s ok to be a doubting thomas…
Just wish you put as much skepticism in your assesments of what Sandy has done as much as you do with the rest of the team.
You know like those two months of awful Bullpen you thought constituted a good day the last time you went on a prediction spree?
Bayonne, you have this jessep pegged to a tee.
Since when do people need to apologize for having differing opinions? Of course if those thoughts had vial namecalling attached that would be different.
The guy was struggling big time, and now it seems he is emerging out of it. Good for everyone right?
Why does your Ike Davis stat line have last night’s results in it but not your RA Dickey line? Hard to agree with your rankings when you’re not even comparing apples to apples.
It does not have last night’s results.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=davisik02&t=b&year=&share=3.04#242-247-sum:batting_gamelogs
If it includes last night statline, MLB.com should become betters haha. All stats were obtained yesterday morning when the post was written.
he’s back
None of you can read. Ike Davis’s grand slam is included, but not Dickey’s 13 strikeout game. BUT THEY WERE IN THE SAME GAME. You can’t count one but not the other. It’s not a valid comparison. I stand by my original statement.
Ike’s grand slam was not included. The home run in his stat line came last Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. His 6 runs batted in came in this way: 3 on Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday. So the grand slam wasn’t taken into consideration, nor was Dickey’s 1-hitter Monday. Everything was done and decided by Monday morning.
Don’t even waste your time Tyler.
jessep:Ike hitless again though… will calm the “he is back” chatter
Amazing, the same guy who praised alderson for acquiring 3 bums yet does not want a HOMEGROWN player to succeed just because bayonne and vinny B like him and want him to do good. The guy is the worst
Amazing the childish lies made up here.
Childish lies?? Didn’t you see his name attach to the post? Check the chat room and come back to me…
You just said he is rooting against him yet the post above states the opposite. Reading is fundamental.
I dont give a crap what was said in the chat room you sre in this thread and his post is here.
All Mets fans want Ike to be back but funny how some say he is back are the same that were having hissy fits when Wright was hittinf over .400 telling everyone he will come back to earth.
Lets declare a 190 hitter back but relax on postive things said about 350 hitter
Typical
Lets go Ike Davis
Lets Go Mets
Don’t be dumb kay, the point is we are rooting for a player to get out of a season long slump, he’s not even hitting 200, yet that guy who claims to be a mets fan whenever he feels like is actually rooting against ike to do good it seems just because bayonne and vinny and metsie amongst others want him to succeed at the major league level instead of triple A as he had suggested in one of his CRArticles.. He’s mad because he said ike davis is a bum basically and had a hot week so for at least a week he’s making him look idiotic, so he’s mad about that, instead of being mad at the acquisition made by alderson this offseason…
Funny how you tell me not to be dumb as you continue to make crap up. Jessep nor anyone is hoping he fails and how deduct that in the first place is beyond comprehension.
Well it was probably deducted using the same logic used when Jessup accused anyone who complained about the “Good Day” Bullpen of blowing games for rooting for them to fail if you must know!
The Same deduction methodology that accused anyone who didn’t think every move Sandy made and taking him to task as not being a Met Fan because we were negative about a player or the team….
Funny how those deductions and accusation were met with silence from you when he made them…
Somewhere somehow now I expect your reply to be Well you guys started it!
And i Will ask you to provide proof of that!
Wow some of you have real creative minds with comments you thinks were said or assume what people think.
Not sure what exactly you post about kay, you bring nothing to this site, all you do is wait for one of us to make a comment so you can come in and attack/bait us… what you do is call trolling and admin should look into that… Post something about baseball for once… SMH..
Let me buy you a mirror, classic hippocrate
