You kind of have to expect ups and downs when you draft kids in HS at such a young age…

Truth is IMO you should never give the kid a prospect label until he has at least made it to AA and showed some performance.

Everything below AA is not much more than an instructional league and it’s not the best place to judge what they do.
Pitchers are working on pitches not facing batters and control, It’s just a very different enviornment and anything that is happening there is far different than what will be faced in a real baseball game.

I note the standouts and am happy to see them but to me they aren’t really worth following closely or worth getting my hopes up until they make it to AA and start showing all the things they learned in the lower levels and applying it.

Flores has cemented his status as a top prospect now.

Tovar was always an exciting young player, but this season he has been playing like a legit prospect.

Pena was once a prospect, then he wasn’t, now he is again. It seems as if he has been around forever, and he has as this is his sixth season in the organization. But at age 22 he is still very young for a catcher, and at AA for the first time he will now be getting his most advanced test. I believe all those years toiling in the lower levels of the system will help his skills and technique catch up to his raw talent. That should make him or break him, and give us a true idea of his value once and for all.

I’m excited to see how it plays out. There was certainly a dip in the offense ’round about the beginning of last week (to coincide with den Dekker’s departure), but over the last couple of games at least ‘they’ seem to have found a new groove. Hopefully the new blood in the locker room will continue to produce for the B-Mets.

It’s going to be interesting watching how the BMets infield of Campbell, Havens, Tovar, Flores and Pena play the rest of this season.

On a more serious note just wanted to say welcome back to Sean Kenny which I believe this is his 1st post since the sad news of the passing of his Mom.
