His numbers this season have been a lot better than in the past two years for sure, hence the reason I used the term 'very uncharacteristic'. It was a very uncharacteristic outing for the 2012 Robert Carson. In the nine game previous to Sunday's, Robert had given up a total of two runs over 10 1/3 innings coming out of the pen.

It was not, as you rightfully pointed out, uncharacteristic at all of the 2010 and 2011 Robert Carson - I totally agree with you on that one. Difference being, Robert Carson 2011 and before - starter; Robert Carson 2012, reliever. Maybe the switch in pitching roles has bought him some time to find his niche in the Mets system.

And, in the grand scheme of things, the B-Mets were already losing 10-5 when he came in, and could only muster one run after he was brought in - the five runs didn't matter (read: overall) since the pitchers that came before him had already lost the game. Would have loved to have seen a strong outing for Carson, but every once in a while a pitcher gets a mulligan - this was his one for the season :-)

"Robert Carson was brought in at the top of the ninth inning, and lasted only 1/3 of an inning in a very uncharacteristic outing in an otherwise strong season. In that 1/3 of an inning, Carson gave up five runs – all earned – on six hits."

Robert Carson is a nice guy, a respectful player. But when he was brought up to the Mets, I was incredulous. Over the past couple of years, he's been repeatedly rocked when he pitched for Binghamton. In fact, in 2010 and 2011, his WHIP and ERA in AA baseball are batting practice numbers.
