I don’t think that throwing strikes is the forte of most pitchers just starting out in the NYP league.

He’s down there to learn. If he is not attacking pitches that he should be, then the coaches will work on it with him.

I’m most excited about the development of Flore than all the other prospects. Mostly because I figured he was a non prospect and I expected to see Wheeler and Harvey have good seasons. With Flores back on his game it’s like we just added a huge prospect to our system. I hope this continues.

True, I imagine if he keeps hitting for the rest of the season he’ll play in Triple A next year. At that point they’ll probably decide on a position for him to stick with. Since Wright should have his long term deal done by then, I’m guessing they’ll give up the third base experiment.

It also explains why a guy with High OBP low BA can be easily defeated merely by throwing strikes!

If the guy can’t hit and the only reason he looked good was because he walks a lot then all you need to do to take away what he is good at is to throw strikes at him.

Now your pitching to the low BA not the high OBP and by doing so the OBP goes away!
If you pick a player based on OBP and not his BA then your letting the Pitcher determine how good he will be or if that OBP is maintained. The Batter can not do it on his own!

Especially considering he went to Bingo in a bit of a skid. The promotion seemed to have put him right back in a hot zone. Great to see.

Position is a problem, but luckily, he is still young so there is no rush for him. He can spend a season or 2 getting reps at 2B or somewhere.

True that, possibly one of the best things that’s happened to the organization this year is Flores re-establishing himself as a top prospect. Assuming he can stick it at either second base or a corner outfield spot, he may very well have a future with the Mets.

Here is the thing you have to look for with a guy who walks more than hits…

It’s not a problem that he walks too much, what you have to watch out for is what he does when they stop throwing balls at him.

If the Pitcher presents you with Ball Four there is no reason to not take it. It’s only when you start looking for it and take fat pitches that it becomes a passivity problem.

The pitchers will recognize it and stop being coy and attack the zone, and if he stays passive then the K Rate will climb.

So I’m not concerned that the kid is walking more than usual. I will start to be concerned if I see him getting punched out on called strikes once they realize they can throw strikes because Nimmo isn’t taking the bat off his shoulder.

Brandon Nimmo went 1-3 with yet another walk, his 13th of the season despite having only six hits, maybe that’s why Alderson drafted this kid .

Yes because every GM should go into the draft looking for the best walker instead of the best hitter.

It’s really nice to see Flores coming around and keep hitting guy 3 or 4 years older than him.
