Just because Soriano has 12 home runs doesn't mean we trade away a young player for a scrub like Soriano who's better days are clearly behind him. That would be a foolish move. Plus why add his horrible defense, everyone knows he is a liability in the field which is why the Yankees let him go. He doesnt even hit that well anymore, Kirk is a better hitter at this point and is not considered to be a 4th OF. Bay will soon be on his way out (already is), Kirk will take his place and remain a starter unless one of minor league players can push him out. Add talent, not trash.

we all know that in the best case this team has to fight to stay above .500 . Sure they could have a better record right now, but it could been worst also . We are 3 games over, lets fight back against the orioles , climb up to 4 games over and then get at least 1 out of the yanks series , So 3 games over at next monday would be fine . We mentioned it before the Rays series that in the nect 12 games , a 6-6 would be fine . So we are on track :) enjoy the ride, hope for the mets to be in strike distance at the beginning of september, and then hope for a little streak . As long as this team is getting 81-87 wins , i am one happy mets fan . BTW where are so experts that had us on a 90-100 loss season? For me the Mets doing GREAT with the options they have . LETS GO METROPOLITANS

Lifelongmetsfan -- Nice try at being a GM. Let's leave it to the professionals. Your take on the value of Soriano and his cost to the Mets is interesting but will not fly here in the Big Apple. Pure speculation on your part. A sounder investment by the Wilpon's would be a lottery ticket.

Nieuwenhuis. projects to be what a 4th outfielder? I mean we're not talking Adam Jones here. Soriano has 12 home runs now, on a horrible team. I am saying, if IF we are still close come trading dealine why not get Soriano? Bay mixes and matches in right field with Duda and stats n left field when Soriano sits. The Cubs would take Murphy for Soriano or Nieuwenhuis.a and pay much of Soriano's salary. Why not?

Lifelingmetsfan, do even know anything about baseball? Kirk for Soriano? That would be a stupid trade. Give up a good young player for a gut who can't field and is on the downside of his career?? Stick to another sport. Why take on the that contract and scrub of a player and ruin the Mets.

Yup put Soriano in LF and it will be like watching Murphy Part Deux.
Soriano has an allergy to baseballs unless he has a bat in his hand and why would Mets want to tie up LF with a player that is past his prime and should be a DH in AL.

Any news on Jason Bay? I was really troubled how the Met training staff handled Bay's injury.
You could see the Met trainer holding the walkie- talkie after running out to Bay. It looked like Ramirez wanted to call on his walkie-talkie for EMS personnel to come out and immobilize Bay then move him off the field.
You would think that when someone hits a wall like Bay did the neck and spine have to be compressed under a lot of force. I wonder why Bay was allowed to wobbly walk off the field instead of being immobilized to prevent further injury??
It also struck me as strange that no Met players came to Bay and helped him "walk" off the field instead off wobble off. It was almost painful to watch an obviously woozy bay woble off the field like that. Ramirez needed to "steer" Bay in the right direction several times as Bay walked in from the outfield.
We need another right handed bat. I was watching the Cubs/Red Sox game tonight. Alfonso Soriano anyone?? Why not? The Cubs will glady pay most of his salary. Soriano for Murphy?
The Cubs are rebuilding they can stick Murphy in at 1st base tomorrow.
If we are still in contention around the All-Star break I am all for getting Soriano and playing him in Left Field. Even Soriano for Nieuwenhuis. The Cubs get a rookie outfielder who is not horrible thus giving them time to develop other talent.
