Alderson: Cecchini Was Not A Compromise Pick, We Will Be Buyers If We’re In The Race

Sandy Alderson was a guest on MLB.com’s The Chatting Cage, hosted by Pete McCarthy. Here were some of the highlights:

  • We will do everything we can to keep David Wright once we get into the offseason.
  • With respect to a trade, probably not before the All-Star Break, but certainly during that period up through the end of July.
  • We will be looking for ways to help the ballclub. It’s very possible we will still need help in the bullpen at that time, but there may be some other areas of need that will emerge, and we will have to address.
  • But definitely we expect to be in the race and, if we are, we will be active in the trade market. Superstar type talents cost money and prospects, and as I’ve said before money will not be a problem.
  • If we’re in the race we will be buyers and we’ll be active in trying to acquire what the team will need, possibly a shortstop.
  • Gavin Cecchini was in the top six of our draft board and we expect him to play shortstop longterm. We didn’t draft him to be a utility player. We expect him to hit and steal some bases. We’ve been following him all year and he was not a compromise selection by no means.

  • Confidence! Aggressiveness! Love it!

    • I guess if you call what any GM who wants to win should do and say – “confidence” and “aggressiveness” than yeah – that’s good. But Alderson didn’t invent it and his isn’t any different than any other GMs confidence if that’s what you’re inferring.

      • LOL Confidence and aggressivness…

Someone should ask Saddam Hussein how well that worked out for him!
Oh wait you can’t he is dead!

I’m glad to see he knows the right things to say…Now if they could just translate into the right things to do we might have something!

RE: Wright I saw that movie it didn’t end well.

RE: Post ASG trades – I guess Ike’s job is safe here. At least until the All Star game is over

I see he still has this bullpen tunnelvision (who can blame him) but considering how well he has done in the past in this area it might be better to go after guys at the bottom of thier GET list…

Odd how he says Money won’t be the issue in any buy deal but makes no mention of the prospects as if to say We have the money not the kids…

I do also find it odd though that in a conversation about being a buyer all of a sudden he decides having a top notch Shortstop is important to him.

Hmmmm Buy-Trade for a Shortstop, Draft a shortstop…I wonder why Shortstop is such a problem for us these days? Wasn’t there a decent shortstop available via Free Agency we could have had to lock up the solution long term?

        • This horse is dead. Stop beating on it.

And if Tejada was healthy, I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t be looking for a SS.

          • Which horse are we talking about here? Last time I checked Sandy is still the GM of the Mets and very much alive! I know you hate to be reminded that not all of his decisions have proved to be good ones but his moves being questioned are fully valid and proper until such time he gets fired!

And If your suggesting the SS horse is dead why did Sandy mention the position as something needed in TWO separate answers to questions?

It would appear to be a focus around here.

Tejada is hurt and you suggest that we are going to be buyers for a role player/Backup until Tejada gets back?

Is that what you REALLY think is the best thing to do or is this just another attempt by some Sandy loving stooge to polish the teflon whenever it seems to be tarnished by past actions?

            • The Reyes horse is dead. If it ain’t dead, it’s retired and sent out for stud. The reason the SS position is coming up is because we’re at the teams 5th string SS. No one has that kind of depth in their minors, so yeah, him thinking the team may need a SS upgrade is probably correct.

And I know all his decisions haven’t been perfect. I’ve stated that I didn’t like the lack of SP depth going into this season.

You guys have to just let the hate for Alderson go. It will release you from your inner rage against the machine and free up some time to take a walk, smell the flowers, etc. etc.

              • Hmmmm did I mention the name reyes anywhere in my post?
                Can’t seem to find it….

Did you hide it NJ? Put it in the pantry?

It seems to be missing from the post I made…

Who pray tell made mention of Reyes?
                Not ME!

All I asked if Shortstop is such a dire need to the point we have to trade prospects in a Deadline Buy/Trade and to waste our very first pick on one, Wasn;t there someone we could have gotten in the offseason to play the position who could solve that problem until such time as this year’s first round pick was ready to take over?

                Was there?
If so and you think reyes was it then I guess the horse has life in it still now doesn’t it?
I wonder what you would say if the BUY/TRADE we make just happened to be FOR Reyes…

That would be ironic and as funny a conversation as hell the day after!
I would love to hear what you guys have to say if that was the play!

                • Don’t play coy, there holmes. You subtly say SS is an issue, why did they need to draft a SS, blah blah. And then play the innocent about “oh, I didn’t bring Reyes name up…” You certainly are one of a kind. Well, Core of a kind, I guess.

                  • CORRECTION: SANDY ALDERSON said Shortstop was an issue….I guess you failed reading comprehension on your SATs too!

                    • When you are on your 5th string SS, yeah, I would think SS would be an issue.

Did you put down circular logic as a major when you filled out the junior college application?

                    • Why are we on our 5th string Shortstop?
                      Injuries?

Why didn’t we sign one in the offseason?
                      Injuries?

Which begs the question did Sandy do all he could have done in the offseason to make sure this didn’t happen?

      • HOLY SHIT!!! Can you please be a little objective!!! Just for once suspend your ridiculous need to be a nay sayer and accept what he’s saying. In a little over a year he’s built a fun and competative team thats right up there near first place. Enjoy it Bayonne!!!

        • Sloatsburg…WHo’s not TRULY being objective here?
Has Sandy built this team that is winning or was it already here?
Can you name the player Sandy got us that has changed the team’s fortunes?

Objectively of course not this subjective “Well they won and Sandy is in charge so he must be the reason for it”

          • Your entire arguement is off! If I had to name one person it would be Terry Collins. He has been way better than I could have even dreamed about. As far bringing in players to save the franchise. I will agree he hasn’t signed the mega superstar FA or traded for a stud but he assembled this team. These excellent picks Omar made (and I actually LOVE Omar as a Scouting/Development guy not as a GM) would have never seen the light of day with us if the old regime was still hear. They would have been traded for some past his prime player that Omar would have then signed to a long term contract.

            • Again Sloat, Your telling people to be objective and then use a subjective assumption to justify your position on Sandy…

Your assuming Omar would have traded them all for Big Name Expensive FAs…

Please name the one TOP PROSPECT Omar has ever traded for one of those?

The only deal like that you could point to was the trade for Santana where they sent Humber, who everyone had given up on! And Humber has never had an ERA below 4.15 Yes he pitched a no hitter this year yet despite that currently has a 5.68 ERA. MUlvey is having his best year yet with a 6.00 ERA

Please feel free to cite the other trades that made you sujectively say Omar would have traded the house we have for High Priced old talent that would stop them from coming up and doing what they are doing?

              • Mulvey retired.

                • yep i didn’t look at the year just the ERA…Sorry!

    • A steady rudder, for sure.

    • I hope we get swept by the Yankees this weekend so that we understand that, as an organization, we are not yet strong enough to trade young talent for a playoff push. That was the thinking behind the Kazmir deal & other moves made at that time.

If anything, I think we should be sellers and continue to acquire young talent. I’ll settle for us to be truly wild card ready next year, and perennial division contenders thereafter, which coincides with Bay’s departure and Johan’s (God Bless Him) hefty contract off the books.

By then, we should be ready to merge our young talent with useful FAs entering their prime.

OK , so Quintanilla has looked at 2 strikes and we’re nearing 2/3ds way toward the sweep is so desire. Call it blood-letting….fouls off 1-2 pitch….2-2…Damn! He gets a hit and now we’re entering the tease phase of our defeat. Shit – feels like Monday night…Valdespin…he’s actually dangerous…one and two after big swing…pop-up and my son turns off the tv before the ball is ..whatever….

So, that’s my point. Too many lefties in the line-up that can’t hit (Murphy/Ike) and a left-fielder that will never get (in his words) m-o-m-e-n-t-u-m.

So, while our weaknesses continue to get exposed, dearly beloved Met fans, let us not delude ourselves into thinking we’ll be buyers at the trading deadline.

      2-Cat over and out.

      • “I hope we get swept by the Yankees this weekend”

Dumbest statement of the day. – SMH

  • There is all the proof one needs. He is simply asked about Cecchini and he goes into pure defense mode. Rather than gushing over the first round pick like other GMs he says:

    1. We dont see him as a utility player.

    2. He wasn’t a compromise pick.

    3. And DePo thought he was the sixth best player on the board????? OMG I couldn’t believe he would even admit something as stupid is that!!!

Wow, a fan tweets a questions and he goes completely into defense mode.

Which only continues to prove what I said the second they took him.

So where did he have David Dahl, Mike Zunino, Kyle Zimmer, Mark Appel, Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, Max Fried, Alex Almora?

According to Alderson half of those names were ranked below Cecchini on their board. HALF!!!

    • You basing this synopsis on your own rankings or just what BA spit out? Just curious.

      • I’m basing it on that video link where Alderson said they had Cecchini ranked as the sixth best prospect on the board.

Now let me ask you a question.

Are you asking me your question because you dont want to believe what Alderson said and that it hurt your image of him deep down inside?

Or because you actually don’t understand that those players I named are infinitely more talented than Cecchini?

I was just curious if you are more upset that I called out Alderson rather than being upset that the Mets could have done a better job.

Who is your rooting interest the GM or the Mets?

        • You “Core” goons have this fantasy that everyone who doesn’t needlessly despise Alderson has to be in love with him. What about backing the GM of your favorite team holding out hope that the moves work out, like we all did so many years with Minaya at the helm.

          • So you’re saying Met fans have to back up M. Donald Grant simply because he was the team’s GM, and that a Mets GM is beyond any criticism?

You belong in pre-war Germany with a philosophy like that. Sorry, I don’t buy into the Pied Piper defense of a GM.

As for holding out hope, hope is all we have and I’m holding out for it. Cecchini is ours now, I wish him well. But that doesn’t mean have to give blind loyalty to the GM simply because he is the GM. When did socialism and facism come back into style? You Alderson Brown Shirts really crack me up. A little criticism and out they come with their lynch mobs. LMAO

            Smarten up.

            • Lemmigs Maniac…Nothing but a bunch of Lemmings going to follow the leader off the cliff!

            • I never said he’s beyond criticism, thank you for making that up. I’m saying your unchecked hated for this man has you calling things failures before they even get off the ground. Like you’re not even trying to understand moves by putting on your hated blinders like the KKK does so often. Go get your Phillies red hood on.

              • yet you say…
“What about backing the GM of your favorite team holding out hope that the moves work out”

                the second he is criticized….

Sounds to me like you were upset at the criticizm…

        • Heh, you crack me up. My interest is the Mets. The team is weak, organizationally at the SS position. They drafted the 3rd SS in the draft. They have strength in their young, SPs, so that would probably slide the SPs on the board down the line. You can’t sit there and say all the teams have the same list and they need to draft down it as it goes. The need for a key player at SS was a need down the line. So they had Cecchini higher up than than some you mentioned. Big deal. If you somehow watch HS and College baseball and have your own list on who should have been drafted vs. Cecchini, fine, but blasting Alderson over this pick and then blasting him for defending his pick is non-productive. Let’s sit back and enjoy the season and worry if this was a bum draft in 4 years or so when we’ll actually have some resolution on who did/didn’t have a good draft.

          • Why are we weak organizationally at the SS position?
I’ll ask again until you identify a cause for this affliction!

Pray tell WHAT KILLED the HORSE at Shortstop?

            • Reyes signing with another team killed the horse.

I’d make some smart remark about Omar’s drafting that led this team to having a whole at SS organizationally through the minors, but I also know that isn’t true. They’ve had players drafted as SS’s that haven’t panned out, and those that have switched positions. Crap happens, draft picks don’t turn out and you go forward and try to correct those issues.

Don’t take this so personally. Met’s couldn’t/didn’t sign Reyes. Time to move on.

              • Go ahead make a comment on Omar’s Drafting…
Oh wait but then you will try to blame me for bringing up the Omar vs Sandy dead horse then won’t you?

Thank you for proving the point that it’s not the guys who question Sandy who keeps bringing up the Sandy vs Omar feud!

It’s what you guys run to whenever someone questions a move by Sandy you can’t defend and the only option left to you and your lot is to say Well it was better than what Omar did!

But yeah it’s always the Anti-Sandy guys who bring it up right?

                FULL OF IT NJ!

                • You did read what I actually wrote, correct? The point where I said it wasn’t correct that we’d blame Omar? Did you score well on your SATs in the Math section, but subpar on the reading comprehension?

                  • Yeah right after you said you could mention it if you wanted to! LOL

                    Then Mentioned it!

“I’d make some smart remark about Omar’s drafting that led this team to having a whole at SS organizationally through the minors”

Yes I read what you said….
It was something about Omar and not on topic of why did Sandy leave that hole exposed!

          • So then SS Phillip Evans is a bust? And Ruben Tejada? Wow, talk about a no-nothing.

            • So when Tejada was drafted, even though they had Reyes, that was a dumb pick then, eh? You are your carpal tunnel vision…

              • Wright was due for free agency at the time tejada was going to be ready the year he was drafted!
We have control of Tejada for years to come!

One thing to hedge your bet on a guy who is going to be 29 but that won’t happen to tejada for another 8-9 years!

Will it take that long for this kid to get through the Minors so he has a place to play when he is ready?

                • What does Wright (a corner INF) have to do with Tejada (a middle INF)? You’re grasping for straws here.

                  • Sorry I meant to type Reyes….But you knew that didn’t you?

Maybe it was a psychic slip since we are very likely to be having this same conversation once we lose Wright because of the years being offerred weren’t enough.

                    • I’ve no clue where your mind goes, so I hope what you mean is what you type…

                    • And now that clarification was made I guess your conceeding the point on what the difference is correct?

I mean since you didn’t bother to comment now that you know what I meant and chose instead to just comment about my typo.

                    • If the organization needs more Short Stops, regardless if it is Reyes coming up for an extension or not, you address what the organization needs. Why is that a difficult concept to wrap your brain around?

                    • WHY?
What happened to the one we had for the last 5 years?
What happened to the guy who was suppose to replace him?
What happened to the decision that they had enough and didn’t need anymore from decmber till now?

And what does that say about thier earlier assesment of the short stop position when they made the decision to STAND PAT! Make NO MOVES not even a TWITCH!

        • They all know whatsaying is true Maniac just don’t want to give an inch on Sandy’s Teflon appearance…
Last year they were stroking off about how great the front office was for taking Nimmo and not a peep like that this year!

They know full well after all the browbeating they gave me about taking a SS was a potential waste that their BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE mantra didn’t really happen afterall!

          • I know Metsie, now they are throwing Evans and Tejada under the bus because Cecchini is suddenly better than them and they are merely scrap heap fodder.

Last year they Praise Alderson for drafting high-ceiling players.

This year they Praise Alderson for NOT drafting high-ceiling players.

            Which one is it?

All it does is show how biased they are and that they root for the GM/Philosophy rather than for the NY Mets.

            • You know which one it is?

              WHATEVER SANDY SAYS IS GODLIKE!

Like I said…Lemmings…Nothing more nothing less!
Follow the Leader and even go so far as to blow yourself up to clear his path and keep him safe!

Thats what this is all about!
No Rhyme or Reason…Just Idol protection and Martyrdom!

              • You Know Maniac I even bet if we should happen to slide from here to the deadline and wind up trading Santana they would all race to find excuses for that being a good move too!

They don’t cvare what move is made or how it impacts the team…If Sandy makes it then it must be good!

  • I see this discussion has been taken over by “The Bore”

    • 6 degrees of Alderson. Some how, all posts on MMO will somehow come back to “it’s all Alderson’s fault”. The problems in Greece & Spain, Global Warming, The Queen of England’s husband not feeling well… It’s on Alderson.

      • No,

We’re talking only about the Mets, that’s it. And there are a lot of us who hate the job Alderson is doing and people like you take exception to it. That’s the problem.

In the past none of us cared who the GM was we only discussed baseball on the field and what we can do to correct things and who the manager was – not the GM. Now all you people lick the toes of Alderson for some reason when it should not be different than any other GM and some GMs here have provided the fans here some exciting teams to root for and many memorable moments. When/If Alderson does that than you have a case.

        Not before.

        • Tell me what you find fault with in what Alderson said? Did any part of what he said sound horrible?

Had he said he was tucking tale, trading off Santana and Wright, yeah, I would have taken exception. But there was nothing in what he said that should instill such vitriol. If you can tell me what you hated about what he said, I think that’d be enlightening to us all. And if you didn’t like the pick they took, so be it. What’s done is done, time to move on and hope for speedy recoveries to the Mets players and hope for a playoff spot. Re-re-re-hashing crap from the past does nothing.

          • “Re-re-re-hashing crap from the past does nothing.”
yet that is precisely what you did now didn’t you?

            • uh, no.

          • don’t be stupid – i know that’s hard for you. This is what causes 200 comment posts.

Just understand what i said in the first place.

I’m talking about in general a lot of us hate the job he’s doing. He didn’t say anything wrong today – aside from the draft pick he said all the right things a GM who wants to win should say. That’s it. The first poster Connor acted like if it was some kind of epiphany from the Lord Our Savior when all he did was say the things he’s supposed to say.

I don’t remember going completely nuts in the past when the team was in contention and a GM said we will look to add to the team come the trade deadline. It’s what you’re supposed to do

Do you understand that? Is that clear?

            • I understand that. Yet when others who don’t feel the same as you, you don’t let it die and resort to insults and slanders. It’s all fine and dandy. It’s your defense mechanism for dealing with conflict. If you could embrace that the phrase “agree to disagree”, it’d save 200+ posts. Well, that, or just cutting off Metsie.

              • That agree to disagree phrase works both ways doesn’t it?

Why is it that Bayonne has to be the one to offer it whenever a 200 post thread is being perpetrated here?

      • Yeah well when one side is trying to grow 15 arms so they have enough fingers to point the blame in every which direction but the guy in charge for all the moves that have caused problems thats kind of what happens!

You know if you guys just debated the moves we question all on it’s own instead of just trying to label us and NOT fans and people who ROOT AGAINST and failing that run to Omar comparisons to justify them you might not see that many 200 Comment threads on the subjects you all claim to hate discussing but bring up the second you start shooting blanks on the move justification front!

  • As soon as a little criticism is hurled Alderson’s way the Brown Shirts arrive in full force. And then they turn it around and it’s THEM who have the problem with a differing opinion, and yet they start off with the insults and grouping like a bunch of Nazis.

    • Yep and if and when this turns into a 100+ rehash debate on Sandy vs Omar or the signability of Reyes they will turn around and blame us for bringing it up when they were the first to mention the name Reyes and Omar in this thread!

All because they know they have no argument against the ON TOPIC points made so they hope to obscure it in crap they claim they are tired of talking about but bring up any chance they can!

      • What are the ON TOPIC points?

        • Why after two offseasons we still have yet to solve the Bullpen issues and the failures of the past attempts at filling it.

Why do we have an issue/NEED at Shortstop needing to trade away prospects and use a top pick in order to solve it.

Why was a player taken with the top pick who the general consensus is wasn’t the best player on the board and why did we take him if we plan to trade for a guy who plays his position at the deadline?

How usefull will this pick be if we have solved the shortstop issue before he is ready to play in the MLB?

      • I guess Jim Callis, John Hart, John Sickels must be part of the core too Metsie. The funny opart is i’d bet anything these two clowns dont even follow NCAA Baseball or subscribe to BA. They just wanted to dump their logs on my post not because they cared about my informed opinion on the draft, but only because it criticized their favorite Met Sandy Alderson. If he had a uniform number, they’d be first in line to buy an Alderson jersey. Well at least three of the best draft people scoffed and Hart said “If didn’t see that coming”.

And Callis said well it looks like the Mets just got a gift after the A’s took Addison Russell. Then the Mets went next and he said, “check that, the White Sox just got a gift”.

And Cecchini wasn’t even in Sickels top 20 let alone top six.

And Jonathan Mayo said “I had him going much lower”.

In fact he had him at # 19. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2012/

You want to know where they all had Courtney Hawkins? Try TOP 4-10!

Welcome John Hart, John Sickels, Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis to the Core. We loved your Sandy Alderson-hating mantras on draft day.

Someone better tell them that criticizing Cecchini pick is akin to being a Sandy hater according to these two idiots.

At least NJstuckTX and MetMan86 have that Mack Mets on their side. He’s the only one who said great pick! Great pick? Great pick my ass! Three peas in a pod.

        • LOL yes they must be part of the CORE
Anyone not a Sandy Snatcher Pod or wearing the Moneyball Harness (From Falling Skies and Payrolls) must be in the core! Enemies to be destroyed, forced to sleep so another controlled pod can take thier place to support the collective! LOL

Just from their reaction they know full well what your saying is true which is why they have chosen to attack your gaul at criticizing Sandy as opposed to defending the move they seem to think is just fine and dandy!

And their opinions on matters seems to be ‘Whatever Sandy did was good!”
And if you question that your not a fan and root against the team.

          BULL!

    • Oh that is so lame. First of all, I was using Brown shirts to describe your gang up tactics last year. And you got all hot and bothered by it.

Second, again, it is you and your band of flying monkeys that use those tactics.

Unoriginal and hypocritical. THE CORE SALUTED YOU!

  • If the Mets are smart they would overlook this illusion of being competitive as this team is playing way over it’s talent level. I would look
to unload Bay(probably impossible), Santana(while his value is high) and Francisco before or at the trade deadline. Look at all the prospects the Angels
have especially the OF Trout, the Blue Jays have a pretty nice young catcher.
I don’t care how many wins we have, you need to think long term and build for the future.
Isn’t the reverse the kind of thinking that got us into the mess we have been mired in?

    • if by “Mess” you mean that 2006 Playoff run then yes thats the kind of thinking that got us there!

Got the Yankees to far worse of a mess the last 17 years as well.

Thinking that your never good enough might as well sell the farm is what has led to no WS appearances for teams like Oakland and Pirates since the late 80′s!

    • what mess? He inherited a very capable team in 2011 – he cut 2 contracts that anybody would have done and also those 2 contracts had no bearing on 06-08…. and got hurt by injuries in 2011 just like his predecessor did in 2009 and most of 2010.

If you mean you’re angry the Mets had 3 chances to get to the World Series from 2006-2008 than yeah i understand your frustration and your blindly looking to blame someone.

  • Oh so now I’m in moderation when it was the other two that came and started all of this because they disagreed with the opinion I posted????

As usual the instigators get away with murder on this site!!!

    • Nah Maniac it happens all the time especially if you put a lot of linkage in a post…
The site does it on it’s own paramenters I do not think the admins target individuals for moderation….

But I could be wrong I don’t really know how the moderation script decides to kkick in or what triggers it other than more than two or three links.

  • Sheep – bleat.
    Ducks – quack.
    Seagulls – squawk.
    Donkeys – bray.
    Whiners – whine, whine, whine.

Hmm. Does somebody have a lot of time to kill and whine? Lol.

    • You forgot one….

      Lemmings DIE! Self DESTRUCT even!

      • Metsie — I wasn’t thinking about you!!! Why would you think such a thing?

Like I said, I was referring to whiners — those who whine, whine, whine. LOL

Actually Metsie, I’m so impressed with the tiger you have in your keyboard tank!!!

        • Des I wasn’t chastising you there…
Just making a point that some people have this “Follow and Love Unconditionally” crap going on whenever someone questions something and these folks need to start thinking for themselves…
Because if they do that in REAL life it will get them killed!

  • Ok I think the Sandy debate is now off the rails. If you’re keeping score at home, Sandy has been mentioned in the same breath as Saddam Hussein. And if that wasn’t enough there was a pre-war Germany comparison. That’s a little too much.

It’s one thing to not like the guy. But this really isn’t healthy.

You guys realize this team is over .500 right? Yet you complain about it everyday. Seriously every day. Can you just enjoy the baseball season?

Really just stop. If this team pisses you off much just get it over with and buy a Jeter jersey.

    • Oh please no one compared him to Saddam…
Just the attitude some are trying to attribute to him which most would say does not apply…

I have seen nothing to suggest Sandy Alderson if Aggressive…Confident maybe but aggressive hardly!

    • Preach on my friend. I get really tired of the nagging fans on this website that consistently bash the Mets and claim to be “Mets fans”. It is really rare to find fans who just enjoy the game and not get all hectic over whats going on in the front office. I waited 6 months for this Mets season and I made sure that I was going to enjoy every game I possible can during this great 162 stretch of my Mets baseball. I went to 6 Mets games this season and there is never a day I leave early because I quit on my team but stay because I paid my money but more importantly because I’m a Mets fan. I love my Mets and I really do enjoy this season because WE are trumping everyones predictions and thoughts on what this “last place team” can do. Listen my man, keep the faith going and enjoy your Mets baseball because we wait 6 months, 6 long boring months just so we can watch our Mets on a field again. LETS GO METS!!!! =)

  • Different day, different post, same old arguments.

    • If this site finally goes the way of the dodo bird, you can just use this comments thread as exhibit A

      • Any thread here that is over 50 comments I just assume it’s Metsie and TRS going at it and avoid it like the plague. Seeing it was a Alderson article I just couldn’t help but to look at the hate fest.

  • The only sections in which I think we need help in is First base and Bullpen. The bullpen is just bad and we really do lack two parts and that is a strong lefty and not just lefty specialist but a lefty that can give Tim some rest and a legit set up man for Frankie because I really do believe in Frankie but the strange thing about him is that he works pretty good when he is working off a good tone set by the previous pitcher we had because lets be honest, we really don’t have a solid set up man but more than anything 3 7inn men (Rauch, Parnell and Ramirez). I say the best relievers that I still can not believe Minaya let go was Feliciano and Takahashi because Feliciano would have done wonders for us (great lefty set up man) and Takahashi was pretty damn good anywhere but closing and might I add he wasn’t horrible as a starter either, better than Batista for sure.

Ike’s bat and mind is in the cloud and is just clueless because repeatedly he is arguing with the ump and can’t get it in his head that it’s him striking out, not the umpire. Like I said before and so did EvanFlow, just hire Derrek Lee and get it over with. Leave Ike in the minors until he gets hot and understands how to make solid contact again. We just need a power bat desperately for the fact being that Duda is our only real homer threat and I didn’t include Wright because he is a line drive hitter more than anything and I love that.

The quicker we can take care of a power bat at first and a legit lefty and set up man then I truly believe this team can stay consistent and not floop in late August and on like we have done since 07. I said it since the off season, this team will surprise but we just need little tweeks here and there and we will for sure go somewhere.

So to end things on a high note, for 2012 are the Mets for real? BELIEVE IT!!!
    LETS GO METS!!!

  • I heard a great interview on MASN two days ago regarding Garin Cecchini, Gavins brother. I learned that both of the Cecchini brothers were resented by many of their teammates because their father was actually the head coach of the Barbe High School baseball team and has been grooming both his kids to be drafted since they first learned how to walk. One players said he felt better players would ride the pine to ensure both brothers got playing times especially when scouts were in attendance. Garin was the shortstop but mostly because it was a valuable commodity in the draft and as soon as he was drafted, his brother Gavin was moved to short for the same reason. The Red Sox almost immediately said that Garin would shift to 3B as soon as he was drafted and has never played a professional game at SS in his two year career. Anyway after Garin was drafted in the 4th round, the father took a new tact with Gavin and entered him in every showcase there was. Now usually space is limited in these showcases, but because of Gavin’s father position as head coach many of these showcases allowed for Gavin to participate garnering him more exposure and soon he went from a second to third round projection to No. 12 overall. The move paid off and there’s a lot of buzz that he already had a pre-draft agreement on the below slot signing bonus before the Mets even selected him. That part was not in the interview but just some buzz that has been going around.

    • What the heck is MASN?

      • MAryland Sports Network

      • Mid Atlantic Sports Network. Nats and O’s network.

  • Sounds like a big “IF”. Sandy may not believe in this team. Last year Sandy did a partial clear out moving Beltron and K Rod. Cutting Ollie and Castillo. He turned down offers for Capuanno and Reyes. This team may be good enough to make the Wild Card but win it all…

This team’s success has been in moving players downstate to the City. Sandy’s free agent signings have been less than steller. If we won’t be buying should we be selling? If so I’d like to see Anderson move ALL his FA signings. Byrdak and Hairston included. These guys could help contenders perhaps we could get some value back. I would shop Gee and Niese. Both have upside but we need to make room the Studs upstate. 2012 is a feel good year but 2014 will be our year.
