Padres fan here….
Regard Sandy – yes he was cranky and was in charge of cutting the Padres payroll from $80 mil to $40 mil, but he did not leave the Padres saddled with long term contracts with garbage players (or anyone actually). Under his rule, the Padres won back to back division titles…the last time that has happened.

Alderson will bring discipline to the Mets’ spending – the complete opposite of Minaya (who is now Sr. VP of Baseball Operations for the Padres). Whether you agree with moneyball or not, his team will seek value players and quite often surprise you – good and bad.

Jessep, outstanding, entertaining and informative post!! Baseball is always better in the summer on the radio, with plenty of cold beers near by. Howie & Josh are doing an outstanding job on the FAN.
That said, I agree with you, this is a 3 of 4 game series the Mets really need. Hopefully they will not need Francisco to save 3 of them.

Not really to be honest.

I don’t think anybody is perfect. I think if you ask an Angels or Astros fan their view of Terry Collins it would likely be much different than most of ours. I think if you asked a Yankees fan about Randolph it would be different than mine.

I asked because I wanted to know. I’m not living in a world where I think the Padres were turned into a major contender so I wanted to know what they thought of him.

How interesting indeed.

Sandy Alderson was like your cantankerous, egotistical, know it all boss. He was entertaining from a fan perspective because he loved to mix it up with fans and insult them on his weekly radio appearances, but he is probably better suited as a GM than a club President.

In the end, his manifesto of being “patiently aggressive” at the plate never seemed to provide anything but players striking out while trying to draw walks. He also destroyed the relationship between beloved closer Trevor Hoffman and the Padres for years due to his inability to respectfully communicate and his own stubbornness.

In most cases I felt that he was trying to do the right thing by building from within and creating a “pipeline” of young talent, but he left the club in a worse place than when arrived. Much of that can be blamed on owner John Moores divorce, but Alderson needs to take his share of the responsibility.

It must have killed you to post that response, Jessep!

I’m with you. and keep in mind, this is however Ike interpreted it in his mind!

Big difference between “we aren’t sending you down right now” and “we won’t send you down at all ever ever even if you continue to be the worst position player in MLB all season”.

Terrible. I totally disagree with this. He’s not a veteran player, he hasn’t earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt here. He hasn’t earned the right to hurt the team, I’m sorry.

So when Tejada and Bay come back who goes down? Rottino and? A Pitcher?

You’re not sending Baxter down right now. So who goes? Who is hurting the Mets more than Ike? Nobody.

I hope that is just manager-speak for now, because when Bay and Tejada come back, that is the time when Ike has to go down if he’s still struggling.

Wow, Memorial Day weekend is upon us already. The older I get the faster the years seem ton pass by. It seems like Spring Training was just yesterday with talks about when would Tejada arrive at camp.
