Teams Interested In Trading For Parnell
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported this morning that several teams have called the New York Mets with serious interest in dealing for reliever Bobby Parnell.
Parnell has bounced back after struggling last season and has mostly pitched in the 6-8 innings this season after a failed attempt at closing in 2011. He currently has 2.84 ERA in 12 2/3 innings pitched with a 1.263 WHIP. He has an impressive 16 strikeouts against just two walks this season.
The likelihood that Parnell gets dealt are pretty slim unless the Mets get blown away. He is currently the most reliable reliever in an otherwise lackluster pen.
There may even be a chance that Parnell will get some save opportunities if Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch don’t get themselves into a good groove soon.

No, I wouldn’t favor trading him as I think he is one solid man in the BP who has serious closer potential. I think the rule is that unless you have a surfeit of pitching talent you don’t give up good pitching talent.
I disagree. Parnell cant pitch in pressure situations. We can get anyone to pitch solid in the 6th and 7th, so if we could parlay Parnell into something good why not?
Devin — “We can get anyone to pitch solid in the 6th and 7th….”
We can?
Parnell should be closing. He is a different pitcher than he was last year.
Just take a look at Heath Bell, couldn’t pitch for Mets goes to SD where no one cares and pitches great and now has pressure again in Miami and Oh what a coincidence he sucks again
Or he’s 34 and one inning closers are volatile anyway.
Parnell as he continues to mature and pitch in more meaningful innings will be a staple for our BP.
How can we go and trade him when our BP has been a disaster and he is one of the few that has been consistent AND
throws hard; you don;t trade a BP arm like Parnell unless you get blown away cause I don’t see any BP help on the horizon from FA or minors.
Don’t see how the Met seriously accept offers for Parnell at this point. He is young, blossoming and fits into our future plans. The fact that other clubs are sending out feelers tends to confirm he has caught the eye of many.
The fact other teams are looking to trade for him should be the indicator to keep him. He isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
The Red Sox have that rookie shortstop in AAA Jose Iglesias. I would trade Bobby P. for that kid. I think Henry Mejda will ultimately become the set-up guy anyway. The Sox are getting desperate and the shortstop they have playing now Mike “Whatshisname” is hitting and play passable defensively. Perhaps they would give up Iglesias for Parnell???
In 2013 we could have an infield of:
1b Davis
2b Havens
ss Iglessias
3b Wright
utility Tejada
NICE!
What the Mets need right now is more guys like Bobby Heat, not fewer.
I’m sure lots of teams are asking about a lot of guys, especially young pitchers. This may just be a case of GMs trying to figure out what the market will look like when playoff races really take shape.
Sure, NOW that he is putting it together you want to trade him.
Just out of curiosity WHO is wanting to trade him?
The article listed in the post just mentions that teams are asking about Parnell in passing. The piece itself is about Rivera’s injury and goes off about relief pitching is always a concern around the league.
Parnell, being young and productive, is a name I’m sure comes up. That doesn’t mean anyone is actually serious about trading him or for him.
Thank you both for clearing that up. Read it fast.
