Bayonne -- you never let a bad thing go. You're as original as yesterday's news.

Ojeda was a good pitcher. He wasn't a good batter. Ignore him. He has time to fill for the gullible viewers.

Mets 5th in the NL in batting average

Last time you got mad about their approach, they were 6th.

Maybe it's their approach because of the hitters in their lineup? Maybe they are getting the best out of guys like Baxter, Kirk, Thole, Murphy and Wright because of their approach?

Just because Ike is absolutely brutal right now, doesn't mean everything has to change.

There are 10 NL teams who have scored less than the Mets, and this is with Ike Davis asleep at the wheel, without their starting SS, without their starting C, and without Jason Bay as well.

I'm not sure why we're acting like they aren't scoring runs

Bobby Ojeda again on pre game ripping the Mets approach and taking too many fastballs and saying it's out around the league that the Mets are passive and they had better change their approach.

Exactly, Bobby! Just play ball and you change your game depending on who you're playing and who is pitching - as old as baseball itself

I feel like we'll have to scratch and claw our way to win this series, let alone sweep. Bucs, while hardly formidable, are doing their usual playing hard and playing decent first half of the season routine.

If Ike fails, I will look to see Turner play first. I trust him to play decent D there and be a hitting asset, esp. in comparison to Ike. Turner isn't phased by pressure, and I think he's pretty dang clutch.

Please, Mets, can we get at least four runs for JS? Don't you think he deserves it!

Nice story. I had the same situation, just a generation earlier in 1986. I still lived in Bergen county at the time (now live deep in SJ phils territory), and the Mets were poised to clinch vs. the Phils in Philly. They actually sold tickets up in NY for this (not a smart idea) through ticketron (I assume at the time). Not that there was much suspense, considering it must have been pretty early in September!

So, a bunch of us pile in the car, and drive down Friday night. THey lose, we go home. Do it again Saturday. They lose, we go home.

decided that was enough, and risk missing it by staying home Sunday. But, they lose. And I did end up going to the next game (at home) to see them clinch, so it worked out inthe end.

the highlight really was watching the drunken brawls in the upper level (infamous 700 level) of the Vet. The phils "fans" were out taunting, and they found plenty of met fans willing to retaliate. at one point, a huge fight started above us, and started spilling down. We actually had to move a section over, as it washed over out seats (breaking some) on the way down!

That was when I learned how many armed undercover security gueards (probaly all off-duty philly cops) there were in that place.

Good times!
