Thanks Metsi, but I made a mistake.

Davis was being the butt of many a gripe inside that lounge and that's what I remembered, not what his actual performance was.

Ever sit in the champions section? Besides the free food, they have a bar that fans can put their money down - and I think the Mets were making a lot of cash from this that day.

The seats were given to me less than three hours before game time by one of our area directors who got them from a vendor (guess he had trouble giving them away since I work in a different department :) ). The ticket price was $189 for season holders and $219 for single games so no wonder so many turned to drink!

He may have been confusing Ike with Duda!
Duda notoriosly starts off slow and then takes off.
Ike was pretty mch good out of the gate and his problem is most likely de to missing nearly and entire year of seeing MLB Pitching.

Beltran had the same problem coming back in 2010, took him almost two months to get his timing and swing back. And Beltran had a lot more experience to draw from than Ike does.
He will be fine jst have to let him work through it.

The only time Ike has been mired in a slmp like this was his first year, came in hot and then then they adjusted to him and it took him a month to re-adjust. It was during that slmp that he developed this bad habit of questioning the UMPs on calls and lets hope he doesn't do that this time because he needs all the help he can get right now!

Hi TR,

You're right - I looked it up.

I think I was remembering more the reactions by those in the Champions Club during last year's home opener when they were groaning because Davis struck out looking with the tying run on third with one out in the sixth . Might also have been because it was so cold outside they went inside to the lounge, had a few drinks to warm up and thus being a bit typsy by that time were making Ike appear worse than he was. One remembers little things like that more than the game when one gets his only opportunity to ever sit in such luxury - and near Snookie.

And like I said about Valdespin even before last night, he's a very valuable prospect because of his versatility, and his athleticism - He can play both middle infield positions, and play the OF(where I thought he looked pretty good in ST). He has a lot of speed(37 SB's in the minors last year), and some pop(17HR's and 32 2B's in 134 games last year).

So, he's a guy that I was high on even before his big HR last night.

Joey,
I am not sure your memory is correct on Ike from last year. The guy was on fire from the beginning.
10 games in: .351	.419	.568	.986
20 games in: .290	.378	.522	.900
30 games in: .312	.394	.569	.963
36 games in: .302	.383	.543	.925

So he might have been different shades of hot but nothing like what he is going through now.

Hi TR,

I remember Ike started off slowly last season as well and then came on and unfortunately got injured.

Hope that means he is just a slow starter and this slump is not a sign that Dessert Fever is affecting him more than we were led to believe. Even when he was first called up in 2010, he already was into the season down in the minors.

Nobody is determining his career by one hit. We just find it humorous that the young players who are coming up now and playing well, came from the same minor league system that was bashed on here on a daily basis.

Like I already said, nobody had a problem with bringing up Omar's minors when they were viewed poorly, only now that some fans are recognizing him for the good job he did with the minors, they have a problem with it.

I don't see a reason to trade ANY of the names I mentioned other than the reasons I mentioned....
having a good player you can't use is as good as not having him!

With all the IFs we have in the MiLs and MLB Roster there simply is not enough room for all of them and throwing them in the OF is not a very good solution!
Especially considering how many OFs we have coming down the line as well!

Something has to give, what it is I can't say I gave up trying to predict what Sandy might do and settle for the one constant whatever he does will be cheap!

As for why I think he will trade Wright well for the same reasons he traded Beltran, K-Rod and let reyes go!
he doesn't like to pay market value for good players, doesn't want to commit to anything long term unless it is to buy out arbitration which is an act that has no negotiation ability inherent in the proccess and he likes to get Kids for Kings on a wholesale basis and has yet to get that from anyone we have traded to date!

He just lost pelfrey, (a guy he called a PLUS pitcher) for good as it is unlikely he is going to tender him ntil he is healthy and that means pelfrey is FA at the end of the year. he may have Harvey to take his place but Familia isn't lighting up the league and seems to have a liking for Murphy (I tend to agree with him on that) as an emotional cog of the winning spirit we have.

That says to me if Wright doesn't start playing so good that he warrants a Big Money 6 years deal from Sandy (and who knows just how good that has to be) it is much more likely he will trade Wright for Kids and move Mrphy to his natural position and open up the 2B spot for the gaggle of IFs he has that are about ready to be promoted.

Wright is the best candidate to get you a decent starting pitcher especially if you couple Familia into the deal if he is still just mediocre at the time of the trade.

So yes I think a trade is in order in the futre to solve the logjam and who it is is anyone's guess!
Could be Spin, Cold be Wright the least likely would appear to be Murphy!
We will see soon enough!

I find it humorous that one game winning home run and some of patting each other on the back because he's "Omar's" boy. So, now we can determine the future of this guy's career by one big hit? Personally I hope he does turn out to be a great player since he is wearing METS across his chest.

On another subject, what's the over/under that JV gets drilled tonight?

MNJ I have to ask the question...
Where was this concern for enjoying a game last year when we still had a shot and you believed we were out of it?

We were enjoying the wins then until someone decided to trade and get rid of the players who were winning them for us!

Not a peep abot his then?
What's Changed?

True but I'm honestly not giving any thought to Havens until he proves he can be healthy. He's just way way too injury prone to have any sort of value.

I'd say honestly for the next 7 years the plan will be Wright 3B, Tejada SS, Ike 1B. So it's what they do at 2B and C that will be question marks for the future.

Ideally I'd love to say Murph (more defensive reasons) and Thole can hack it there for the next 5-7 years but as much as I like both players... I'm not confident they will.

Hi North,

Don't worry friend, I understand the point you were getting at and thought you just might not have been aware of the statements made. That's why I made it a point to refer to you as such a gentleman.

Yes, I'm aware of my tendancy to repeat things often - let that be the worst thing said about me and I'll be fine. While I was nervous when first stepping up to the microphone at that 50th Anniversary celebration hosted by Hofstra last week, once I started going it was hard for me to shut up! LOL.

Just wish the freakish accidents would stop happening. Tejada was a fluke on Sunday and last night was just one of things that could happen. But with Pelfrey now shelved for the season, Bay still out and Torres just coming back, I'm afraid to look into a crystal ball and see what's up the road for us, health wise.

We've had too much our share of injuries beginning in 2009. I don't think we've played with a relatively full deck (compared to other teams since injuries are part of the game) since that time.

No the difference is based on AGENDA TRS it always has been!
When the guys who now are in love with the team thought it was a useless pile of Omar Crap it was in their interests to make the MiLs should like Pirate doo doo to promote what they wanted to see done! Which was to take a broom to the roster and rebuild from the draft because our Kids were just useless and not worthy of the MLB.

Now that they have shown they ARE worthy of being in the MLB They realize that their previous position was DEAD WRONG and to hide that from being the topic they have resorted to Crowing about how great this team that they said sucked is and chastise anyone who points out the fact that the moves they actually DID like and still may trip us up get called out as NON-FANS to make the discussion about the Poster not what the accusers WRONGLY claimed was so awful 6 months ago!
