Mets Head To Toronto Donning Hockey Jerseys
After tonight’s thrilling 9-4 come-from-behind victory over the Cincinnati Reds, the Mets left Citi Field donning hockey jerseys as they head north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game set.

Hopefully this time this themed event will have a better result in Toronto than the cowboy theme when they got swept by the Astros earlier this month.

Off Topic: Nice game tonight by the BMets. Wheeler outside of 1 shaky inning with his control (the 4th) was dominant. Gave up his 1st HR as a Met in the 1st a 2 run hr. and didn’t give up another hit until a 6th inning single. Gave up 4 walks 2 in that shaky 4th inning but after that retired 11 of the next 12 batters he faced. He threw 67% of his pitches for strikes (93 pitches – 62 strikes) his final line was 7.0/IP, 2/H, 2/R, 2/ER, 4/BB, 8/SO.
The BMets exploded for a 9 run 2nd inning and never looked back. Final score Bmets 12 Thunder 3.
North,
Thanks again for another heads up about Wheeler. Perhaps the other two walks being spread over six innings is an encouraging sign that he is starting to get a handle on his control problems. Those in double-A are sure not showing signs that the hitters are starting to even come close catching up to him.
Any information on how his ball to strike ratio has developed this season?
Joe
No sorry no info his ball to strike ratio. You can go through all of his game logs I guess and Pitches/strike numbers to try and figure it out.
4 more walks though… Sounds like mike pelfrey 2.0 to me…
Pelfrey? Really?
*facepalm*
So far Wheeler is giving up 6 H/9 and striking out 10.8/9 and has given up 15 runs in 64+ innings since becoming a Met with only 1 HR given up during that time. Can’t we give him some credit or is this just more of the Sandy vs Omar problems?
Hi Tr,
Know what concerns me most with Wheeler?
His career begins like Nolan Ryan’s, with his control problems hindering him from going from a thrower to a pitcher so after four years (and becoming eligible for arbitration) the Mets trade him to the Angels for JIm Fregosi the third to replace a retiring David Wright. He then goes on to throw six no hitters, sets the all time career strike out record and is inducted into the Hall of Fame his first go round.
I could almost promise you that under the current administration Wheeler is not being traded. I would assume that they view Wheeler much like Omar did Fmart.
I guess you can compare him to Pelfrey. Wheeler is averaging 4.5 BB/9 so far in 2012. You’d like to see that come down but I am actually more concerned with Familia who is averaging 7.2 BB/9 so far in 2012. Harvey in the other hand has done a lot better in that regard averaging 3.9 BB/9 so far in 2012. Personally I won’t compare any of the 3 to Pelfrey based in the Minors since Pelfrey was rushed through the farm system in my opinion. Now when and if Wheeler makes it to the bigs or for that matter Harvey & Familia I’ll revisit the comparisons to Pelfrey.
I love these stories about what get up the Mets will be wearing to the next city they visit. I hope this becomes a habit cuz it’s very funny.
Gary, Team Finland?! LOL!
Actually, isn’t he supposed to sporting the Belarussian national team’s jersey?
No picture of Wright in his Mighty Ducks Goldberg the Goalie jersey?
Thank God Gee shaved that shit off his chin.
I’m thoroughly convinced he was forced to wear that thing as some sort of rookie hazing.
I hope when they go to the Bronx they all wear Metro Card t-shirts
I just hope their bus doesn’t get caught in a traffic jam leading to the Stadium, either via the elevated Bruckner Expressway, Major Deegan Expressway or both.
To avoid that problem, they should charter a seven train down to Grand Central where another charted number four train awaits them for the trip toward River Avenue.
