Seeing the quotes this morning saying with Thole’s past history of concussions there is almost no chance he’s coming off the DL in 7 days.

Hope this is not as serious as it sounds and won’t cost him the season ala Bay.

Actually, It seemed the momentum of the slide and the position both were in was, unfortunately, the “perfect storm”. If it was a cheap shot by Ty, there would have been something between a mild selection of words to fireworks or statements from those with the team of which there has been but a whisper other than saying the slide was clean and the accident a misfortune. And the sports media sensationlists would have pounced on the opportunity to play on something like this.

SurfingTheMets (Beat Writer / Columnist) Alderson delivers unhappy updat on Thole. Neurologist said he would be out more than 7 days. Has at least 2 othe prior concussions.

Wigginton’s slide was clean. Thole’s head hit Wiggie’s shoulder and bounced off the ground.

Thole probably would have had a better shot at not getting a concussion if the Phillies weren’t playing dirty. He got an elbow to the head that would have been a penalty in hockey. It was really obvious that it was intentional. The Phillies are starting to look pretty desperate on the field.

Hi Joey D,

Yes I did catch that. I read where Collins said Thole second guessed himself as far as removing the mask but I read Nickeas point out he only keeps his mask on on balls hit to the outfield and well that ball was fielded by Parnell. How commonplace is it to keep the mask on on balls hit to a pitcher? I can’t say. In any event I agree the 7 day DL is a lot better than the traditional 15 day DL. Hopefully he and Tejada get well and back inside their allotted DL time.

Hi North,

Don’t know if you caught Mike Francesa’s interview with Ed Coleman a little while ago but Coleman was quick to point out that Thole had taken off his catcher’s mask whereas he should have kept it on.

It was a bang-bang play but maybe a more experienced player would kept his mask on and thus had better absorbed that shock to the head. Literally, a “hard” lesson for Thole to learn.

I do like the idea of a seven day disabled list for concussions. Since the Ryan Church play several years back we’ve since learned a lot about how dangerous these can be in baseball. It is, of course, a much more serious problem with football and with permanent effects.

Josh, get well, take your time but get back as soon as you could – both you and Ruben.
