Mets Activate Carrasco From DL, Option Valdespin to Buffalo
The Mets have activated D.J. Carrasco from the disabled list. Carrasco began the season on the DL after twisting his ankle in a Spring Training game.
Carrasco is coming off of a down season in which he went 1-2 with a 6.02 ERA in 49 innings pitched.
To make room for Carrasco on the roster, the Mets optioned IF/OF Jordany Valdespin to Triple-A Buffalo.

Hey Fresh Meat. LOL
As for Jordany… go back kid and keep working. Work on that plate discipline and get back up here.
yup. he got a look and a taste of what the big time is like.
I think a visit like this can be good for a guy that has an inflated opinion of himself. If you can’t be humbled a bit by coming up and not doing anything, an realize exactly how hard it is to get and stay in the majors (and how much you have to work on your weaknesses) there is no hope for you.
Saw Batista up in the BP at least once today, if not twice. Was wondering what Plan B would have been had he had to bail Johan out early. I guess they knew Carrasco was on his way up.
I’ll bet the two of them will tag team that start on Tuesday.
Batista cannot be the 5th starter solution for this month. He just can’t. Is there any Met fan out there that thinks Batista has anything left?
No…. but baseball intrigues me. How is it, and I know he’s damn old, that a guy could pitch so well last year and so poorly this year?
Good question. Maybe Batista just hit that age where he can’t get it done anymore. As opposed to Bay – who fell off a cliff from one last productive year in Boston to a shell of that former self once we signed him. Only thing is with Batista, his age could be a feasible reason. That and he really wasn’t all that solid to start with so the top drop off isn’t as severe – IMO.
I guess last year was just lightning in the bottle. We thought that with Darren Oliver too though. I still think the signing was good but you got to know when to bail.
He really didn’t have a good year last year. He was so bad that he was released midseason by the Cards. Yeah, he had that one nice game, but he did not pitch good the whole year.
He was all right last year – not sure about his recent years before that – I’d have to look it up.
I wouldn’t have resigned him this year. Wonder if the only reason they did was to hedge their bets against Johan not being ready to start the season? We really didn’t need two long man and they already had Carrasco – although I can’t remember the timing of that signing but I thought it was before Carrasco’s injury.
You know I’ve been saying since end of last season they needed to get at least one starter, minimum. Even with Johan possibly being ready SP depth was too thin. I know the arguments against signing anyone long term or trading away good prospects but dang……there was no one we could have got that were better than a Batista or Schwinden?
OMG, Crap–Assco, whatcha might call a recurring nightmare.
Hey, we won today, we really won. Today it was Johan’s turn to sabotage–almost–his own win.
Still, he gutted it out and Bobby P and FF pitched decent enough. Feels SOOOOOOOOOO good.
Not that I was looking forward to it, but I’m glad Valdespin will be going back to Buffalo so he’ll return to getting regular playing time instead of rotting on the bench and being unused while Hairston looks lost in LF. It befuddles me how Acosta is still on the team. There better be more moves coming than just Carrasco. It will take more than Carrasco to improve the situation with the staff, especially with Batista starting again (recipe for disaster!).
With me getting to see the Bison next weekend I am glad they are sending him down… LOL. That roster is a little weak on offense right now.
Off Topic: Just wanted to say regarding today’s game congrats to Santana on his 1st win since his surgery. Though the Dbacks seemed to hit Santana well, he managed to scatter the hits enough to only give up 3 runs over 7 innings. Mets end the losing streak and avoid falling below .500 for the 1st time in 2012. On a day where the 2 through 4 hitters go 0 for 11 they manage to score 4 runs.
Positives for me was Santana keeping the Mets in the game while going 7. Torres who has quietly joined the team and simply done what he can to help them win both in the outfield and at the plate where he has a 5 game hitting & RBI streak. Finally the pen for preserving the 1 run lead for a much needed win.
Dickey on the hill 2morrow. Lets take 2 out of 3.
LGM!!!
