Obviously Omar didn’t ruin the pen but Sandy’s choices to replace it sure have!
I don’t blame Sandy for scrapping what we had but I do blame him for not being able to find even a single improvement in two offseasons worth of focus!

In 2010, the Mets best relievers were Dessens, Parnell, Acosta, Feliciano and obviously KRod. They are the ones contributing most to that low ERA you are bragging about.

So in 2011,
Parnell and Acosta’s ERA were a run higher than they were in 2010…
Elmer Dessens was out of major league baseball after 2010 and
Feliciano… hm where was he? Oh right. Hasn’t pitched since.

So I guess my question is, if 2 of their best 5 had worse years in 2011 than in 2010
and another 2 out of their best 5 haven’t pitched since…
and KRod’s ERA as a 2011 Met increased from 2.20 to 3.16

Why would somebody dispute that the 2011 management was left with a worse bullpen? When it’s actually true?

Trying to incorporate his off speed is good but he, Parnell/Johnson needed to keep it down and away and only throw hard stuff inside to Ruiz, the best hitter not named Wiggy on Phillies.

Despite all this how may options do TC and SA have when it comes to BP? I see they brought up Ramirez from minors effective Friday but if this season is to help our starters, especially Gee, NIese and Hefner to a point, grow then let them wk out of a mess, especially when only 1 out is required and show some confidence in your pitcher.

Many a time so far this season has TC gone out to get a pitcher and we have all scratched out collective heads wondering if this is the 2nd coming of Manuel who burned up the BP really bad.

I really believe TC and to an extent SA and Warthen need to re-evaluate the innings that they are not letting their young pitchers and vets like Johan and RA finish out of a mistaken loyalty to a BP that only has FF on the right page; plus bringing in Schwinden told me that TC had also given up on game

Stop blaming Terry. He’s only playing the cards he was dealt, jeez hindsight is 20/20 isn’t it. If a pitcher has good stuff he should have no problem closing or coming in at tough situations. That is the saber side of things I believe.

TC is the one getting the best out of guys like Baxter or a guy like Turner. Not Omar Minaya or Sandy.

I don’t know who was in charge of the positioning of the OF but they got beat. At the end of the day though, Parnell gave up the bomb.

Slightly off topic: This is why I don’t like “earned runs” versus “runs”, especially for bullpen arms. If your 2B misses a routine groundball and a run scores on that play, I’m okay with it not counting against you as a pitcher. But if there’s an error, and then on the next at bat that runner scores… I don’t care what happened on the previous play. It’s the pitcher’s job to get the out.

There is no Sandy W-L column versus an Omar W-L column.

You are obsessed. You act as though every time a “Sandy Met” does good, people who supported him run here and say “take that Omar!” but it doesn’t happen.

Every time an “Omar Met” does better than “Sandy Mets” you come here and act like they don’t play for the same team.

I do not care which GM is responsible for signing the contract that brought a player here. Torres’ mistake didn’t put a HR on a tee for Ruiz. Parnell’s pitch did.

It wasn’t Gee who lost it and cost us the game nor was it Parnell giving up the HR, it was Torres looking like a druken sailor and not catching a ball he should have to end the inning.

The only reason people are firing Buckshot at Terry and Parnell is god forbid someone Sandy brought in is ever held accountable for any losses this team might have!

Gee should have finished the inning…In fact he DID until Torres screwed the pooch!
Parnell hung a curveball, Bad mistake but if anyone thinks he shouldn’t have been out there don’t blame Terry blame Torres for that!

About the only move you can really question that Terry made was putting Schwinden in the game, It was tantamount to giving up!

I can forgive Parnell for his one mistake, I can forgive Rauch for giving up a sacrifice to shallow center field that the mighty arm of Torres couldn’t even make close!

I can even forgive Byrdak because lets face it he was long overdue to give up a run…

Torres is the goat! And the only reason I can see for identifying other targets for that loss is because they simply don’t want to face the fact of who brought him here!
