The problem isn’t Alderson or anyone sticking us with guys like Nickeas. It is that the organization didn’t do a better job developing guys in our system. Fixing that takes time.

Honestly, what do you expect any GM to do in this situation? Its not like there is a flood of quality catchers out there. It takes $4 million just to sign some 38 year old journey man who may not even be able to play 50 games.

But Donal, I’m just really sick of the abject stupidity that appears to underlie certain significant baseball decisions that have relegated us to rooting for a substandard team. And what kills me is that the organization simply doesn’t know how to come clean.

Where’s Donnie Walsh when you need him? He could clean up this organization, whether he knows anything about baseball or not, by selecting good decision makers and leveling with the fan base. It’s really not that hard to do, unless your latent agenda is affected by a failed financial structure that you’re not willing to disclose.

I’m patient and I understand that Sandy’s trying to do the right thing. But I wish he didn’t stick us with players like Nickeas. Is he really better than Rob Johnson or Lucas May? Have you noticed the team’s decline since Torres’ return? I just wish they wouldn’t half-ass the youth movement.

In a year where we were not expected to do well, I’m in favor of playing the kids – see what we’ve got. Which leads to knowing then what we need for the future. Only drawback to that is the growing pains, like we saw last night with Baxter and Kirk in the field. I can live with that, as long as it doesn’t start being a common thing.

I prob would have preferred a Kirk / Murph / Wright / Duda / Baxter / Ike / Ronny / Nickeas configuration, but either way, the only solid part to the group is Murph and Wright.
