Starting Lineup
- Mike Baxter – LF
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis – CF
- David Wright – 3B
- Lucas Duda – RF

- Ike Davis – 1B

The Mets will try to put last night behind them as they take on the Pirates in game two of this series. Last night’s game was filled with errors for the Mets as they had a 4-0 lead at one point and just watched the lead slip away. The Mets will try to get on the consistent, right track behind R.A. Dickey tonight as he takes on James McDonald.
Dickey is 5-1 on the season with a 3.75 ERA. In the month of May he has made three starts with a 2-0 record over 20.0 innings and a 2.70 ERA. Last season Dickey was the hard luck loser against the Pirates as he was 0-2 over two starts while pitching 15.2 innings with a 2.30 ERA. The Pirates have the following numbers against Dickey:
McCutchen 2-9
Tabata 3-9, 2B
Jones 4-10, 2B
McGehee 1-10
Alvarez 1-3
The Mets bats will look to score some run support off of James McDonald who is 3-2 over 50.1 innings of work with an ERA of 2.68. In the month of May he made three starts with a 2-1 record over 20.0 innings and a 2.25 ERA. In 2011 he was 1-0 in two starts against the Mets where he pitched 12 innings while allowing 3 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against McDonald:
Wright 2-6
Davis 3-6, 3 2B
Duda 0-6
Murphy 3-6
Torres 1-5, 2B

terry certainly willing to try something new at least.
Torres needs a break. Or we need a break from him…
Uff da… This team needs to get healthy ASAP!
I prob would have preferred a Kirk / Murph / Wright / Duda / Baxter / Ike / Ronny / Nickeas configuration, but either way, the only solid part to the group is Murph and Wright.
ha at first I read the subject quick and thought it said “As Mets try to Lose”
I’m not sure about Baxter batting 1st… it’s different?
I’m not totally sure why you don’t just flip him and Kirk there but whatever.
McDonald is awesome though, so this game is up to Dickey
Is that the youngest OF we’ve put out there in a good long while? Yikes. I hope they’ve got their communication plan down pat tonight.
In a year where we were not expected to do well, I’m in favor of playing the kids – see what we’ve got. Which leads to knowing then what we need for the future. Only drawback to that is the growing pains, like we saw last night with Baxter and Kirk in the field. I can live with that, as long as it doesn’t start being a common thing.
Here’s hoping Dickey’s knuckleball is spot on tonight.
Well Baxter is 27… so probably not
WHY IS MIKE NICKEAS PLAYING MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL?
WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING ON OUR TEAM?
HAS ANYONE NOTICE THAT HE CANNOT CATCH RA DICKEY AND THAT HE SUCKS LIKE A MOTHER AT THE PLATE?
IS THIS WHAT SANDY ALDERSON IS ASKING US TO ACCEPT AS MET FANS?
WHAT ARE THE TICKET PRICES? WE HAVE TO PAY TWICE FOR A DOUBLEHEADER?
ON THE LAST DAY OF THE SEASON LAST YEAR, SECURITY GUARDS CHASED ME, MY WIFE AND 3 CHILDREN FROM A COMPLETELY EMPTY SECTION, WHICH PROVIDED MORE FAVORABLE VIEWING. IN YEARS PAST, FRED WILPON USED TO ENCOURAGE US TO COME DOWN FOR BETTER SEATING.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS ORGANIZATION?!!
I CAN’T TAKE THIS SHIT ANYMORE.
You should fix your keyboard. The caps lock button seems to be stuck.
I know, I know – I recall telling someone once who was yelling that I couldn’t hear him b/c some @sshole was screaming at the same time he was trying to speak.
But Donal, I’m just really sick of the abject stupidity that appears to underlie certain significant baseball decisions that have relegated us to rooting for a substandard team. And what kills me is that the organization simply doesn’t know how to come clean.
Where’s Donnie Walsh when you need him? He could clean up this organization, whether he knows anything about baseball or not, by selecting good decision makers and leveling with the fan base. It’s really not that hard to do, unless your latent agenda is affected by a failed financial structure that you’re not willing to disclose.
I’m patient and I understand that Sandy’s trying to do the right thing. But I wish he didn’t stick us with players like Nickeas. Is he really better than Rob Johnson or Lucas May? Have you noticed the team’s decline since Torres’ return? I just wish they wouldn’t half-ass the youth movement.
It’s not abject stupidity. Nickeas fills the role of back up catcher rather well. Thole is starting baseball activities now.
The problem isn’t Alderson or anyone sticking us with guys like Nickeas. It is that the organization didn’t do a better job developing guys in our system. Fixing that takes time.
Honestly, what do you expect any GM to do in this situation? Its not like there is a flood of quality catchers out there. It takes $4 million just to sign some 38 year old journey man who may not even be able to play 50 games.
Sorry for the meltdown – but with Torres, Ike & Nickeas in the game yesterday, we had two guys (Nickeas and Torres) who were collectively one-for-fifty-two (52 AB – 1 H), and another guy who is struggling to hit .175 and who promptly struck out twice.
Makes me want to puke.
No more Mr. Nice Guy. The highlight of my week was learning that DJ Carrasco and his sardonic smile got DFA’d. Otherwise, we are presented with a line-up lopsided with lefties and one switch hitter that can’t hit from both sides of the plate.
Yeah, I’ll just meltdown again.
Better stop.
Thanks.
Sorry.
Baxter has been getting a lot of extra base hits and the clueless Collins wastes him in the leadoff spot when the rest of the team is suffering a power outage. Not smart but Terry Collins has never been mistaken for a genius so I guess it’s to be expected by now.
