Well 22 of them were in that inning but it still took him 81 to get through 5 innings. Still too many. Oh well a work in progress. Can’t fault him for the outing for sure.

Not that I recall. He was dealing a no hitter at that time and had allowed just 1 baserunner on a walk when we were listening. Before he came out for his next inning. I don’t recall hearing Harvey pitch the 6tH. I believe by that time the game was about to start.

So did they talk any about his high pitch count? There were a few AB’s there that really inflated it including a 10 pitch.

The good thing about yesterday’s rain delay is that it allowed the listening of Harvey pitch. He had just lost the perfect game with a walk and the next inning the Yankees Francisco Cervelli broke the no-hitter with a stupid bunt single that Harvey actually got his hands on but once he bobbled it there was not even a throw to 1st. BTW I don’t know the name of the man who calls the game but he is pretty good. Def a fun listen.

He’s pitching for AAA Buffalo, he’s not pitching for the Mets yet. He just turned 23 at the end of March, and he’s pitching in a league where the average age is around 26 or 27. This is the reason why myself and the rest of the staff at MMO have been calling for patience regarding promotions for Harvey, Mejia, Familia, and Wheeler. And why we feel that anything earlier than a September call-up by the Mets regarding Harvey or Mejia would be insane. Familia and Wheeler will require even more seasoning.

You have to wonder though, why is it taking him so many pitches? Here is the break down in order
# of pitches
5, 6, 4, 6, 3, 3, 5, 2, 10, 7, 5, 5, 2, 4, 8, 4, 6, 6, 6
That 6th inning he had already thrown 22 pitches and only had one out. So pretty easy to see why they pulled him.
Those 5+ pitch AB’s are alarming. That means that the stuff wasn’t there to put the guy away.

We can debate the pitch count issue, that’s really not going to change though like it or not. For young starters all over baseball 100 pitches seems to be the cap. That’s not what I am talking about.

At that pace he would need about 180 pitches to go 9. That is WAY too many pitches for 5 1/3 innings.

not too much, as in it is going to hurt him. Just too much, as in inefficient, and a problem if it becomes the norm (because like it or not, the 100 PC is still a big milestone in MLB).

needing 120 pitches to get through the 6th is not going to do the BP any favors.

103 pitches was not too much. he’s neither a teenager nor a geriatric. Are you looking to develop a top of the rotation horse or just another wuss who cant pitch out of his own jams?

Nice job by Harvey, I will have to go check but I wonder why they pulled him in the 5th inning? Was it crappy weather, were they desperate to win, was he out of gas, had he reached his limit?
