Anyway when all is said and done i think if both get what they want they will both have extensions any man would be proud of.

it is more of an NBA thing to base everything on the last year.

Not too many guys in MLB can spend 3-4 whatever years just coasting, doing nothing special, then have 1 big year and get treated like they have done it all along. Certainly can help, but GMs look at their history too.

Just becauase they haven’t decided to extend someone does not mean they REFUSE to or have decided not to!

The Amateur draft is a Week and a half away! I’m sure that is what is occupying the majority of the FO meeting time and once it is done, once they are in the Agent meeting mode to sign those drafted players they will start meeting with the MLB agents (who in some cases are probably the same guys) and talk about extentions for guys like Wright and Dickey.

It’s not something that needs to be done urgently, as long as they do it sometime before the player gets to decide where he signs they will be fine.

Will they be here and not have to sell their performance to another team?

This whole assertion that because there is an option there is no motivation to have a better year that normal is just bull!

Nether you, Wright or Dickey has any clue if they will be Free Agents come November!
Sandy is the only one who can say for sure if those options will be picked up or declined!

Some from the POV of the player he is just as much playing for a contract regardless of the option as if he had NO option and his contract was ending….
Because in this case the contract could just as easily be ended as it does being picked up!

Would it be dumb to decline the option? YES!
But there is nothing to suggest dumb things can never happen!

It could be that the Prospect haul would be better for Dickie with this year and an option versus this year PLUS year/dollars obligation going forward…..that must be part of any calculation because it’s Reality.

Wright would probably give a discount but a 2 or 3 Mil discount will still mean a contract in the 16-20+ Range!

If you guys think making an offer is bidding against ourselves trust me Wright will get way more than that if he can shop.

If the interviewer asked about the extention then no it wasn’t bad what he said he just re-iterated he wants to be here and it’s up to them to buy the option and make an extention offer…

It only really sounds as bad as you think if it came out of the blue.

Dickey, I said somewhere recently that I thought they should work out a deal in the off season that would pick up the option, and add a 2nd guaranteed year + another option. Something like that. And if it really wasn’t enough for him, then just pick up the option.

Wright is going to be a lot more difficult! But if it were up to me, I would try to get something worked out 1/2 way through the year.

Not that it has anything to do with Wright.

I would guess they want to see which way the attendance is going before they make any moves (So far Down).

(If money is as important as some people think it is then Wright may not get extended until next season when they have to make a move and maybe attendance will pay for it.

And if not there is still a good possibility Wright is a goner, although Sandy during the game seemed to be a little more willing than he ever showed on Reyes.
