Chris Young Makes Second Rehab Start Tonite
Update: This game has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Rescheduling information to follow on MMO. Original post: Mets righty Chris Young will make his second rehab start of 2012 tonight for St. Lucie in Florida State League action. Young takes the hill against the Bradenton Marauders, and second overall pick in the 2010 draft Jameson Taillon, first pitch is at 6:30 pm.
In his first start on May 10th, Young went five innings against Brevard County, giving up five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Young is attempting to come back from shoulder-capsule surgery on his right shoulder, a very similar procedure to the one that Johan Santana went through.
About the Author: Peter Shapiro
The first time I went to Shea was not for a Mets game, it was for the Beatles concert there in August of '66. My first Met game was '67, a guy named Salty Parker was the interim-manager then. My first pennant race was 1969. As a 12 year-old that summer and fall, I managed to get to the park for 3 games. The first was the beginning of the Miracle which actually started on Tuesday July 8, 1969 with a day game against the Cubs. I was there a lot in '73. I saw games 3 & 5 of the 1973 NL Playoffs against the "Big Red Machine", from the upper deck behind home plate. It was from there that I witnessed the fight between Bud Harrelson and Pete Rose, and the mayhem that ensued. And that sweet victory in game 5! I saw a couple of WS games at Shea that year against that legendary Oakland A's club. I was there in 1985 for every single game Dr. K pitched including his two 16 strikeout performances, and the day he one-hit the Cubs on an infield single and the Mets won 1-0. I loved being a Met fan in those days. Hopefully we are once again preparing to emerge from the darkness.

Oh crap, I guess I left that part out huh? Thanks for the assist Des!
Petey Pete — I’m just a backup to help folks who want to go to the game. It’s about an hour from where I live so I don’t know if I’ll be going.
For the many times I’ve read your articles but haven’t commented, I’d like to give you a big thanks. Joe D. has some capable writers now. You’re better than good. You make stories interesting.
Thanks so much Des. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to write on MMO, and I owe it all to readers like you, and of course Joe D, our fearless leader. I have to tell you I’m very worried about Joe. This stay in the hospital is no little thing, it’s serious, and we should all be sending out some get well thoughts and prayers.
Joe D. — Take care of your medical issues and return to the job you do best. Life for most people has trials and travails but with your determination and equilibrium , you’re uniquely gifted to deal with trying issues. So from my lips to God’s ears — please bestow your blessings on Joe DeCaro and help him get better soon.
So Pete…
what if both Young and Mejia go lights out during their respective “rehabs”…
who replaces Batista?
Gee?
Bueller?
If both light it up then one of two things will happen. Mejia will stay in AAA while Young takes his turn or…
Mejia will go to the bullpen.
