I'm wondering if D.J. Carasco is in Terry's dog house for instigating the whole thing.

Am sure that Carsco threw it out of being unable to control his personal frustration. Since he's been called up he's appeared in three games in which he's pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

Gee had a real bad day no doubts about that....

But here is something Collins had better learn rather quickly....

You can not pitch guys like Batista and Gee back to back!
They are both practically the SAME pitcher as far as stuff and approach goes!

Both have a mediocre fastball and rely on the breaking balls to get the job done.
Batista had some success the night before but they were well conditioned to jump all over the breaking balls by the time Gee got to the mound!

You need to breakup those types with a power pitcher in between. And see the rotation schedule ahead of time to avoid those double matchups.

It might have been better to give Niese the night off (he had the flu didn't he?) and pitch Batista against the Marlins, Then if Niese was feeling better pitch him the next night followed by Gee.Or even Gee on short rest and Niese last night. That would split the two so they didn't both face the same team at least.

As for the bats well they were facing a former CyYoung winner lets not forget that!
You can't win every game and it would be unfair to expect the bats to make up for 8 runs even if they were not facing a former CY winner.

7 runs on 8 hits? yeesh. Someone PLEASE answer me this.

I've been hearing about how guys like Acosta & Francisco are costing us game after game (which is true). However, do any of you know who gives up the most runs among the pitching staff? One Dillon Kyle Gee. I've heard the lambasting Acosta & Francisco got, but Gee is virtually unscathed?

I understand he's working on his control and stuff, and he's gotten better in that area. Unfortunately, he's becoming worse than he was in the 2nd half of last season. He's batting practice to opposing teams. His ERA, Opp BA, H/9 and WHIP raises a red flag and it tells me that maybe Gee needs to work out whatever's going for a little bit in Buffalo because he's becoming harder to watch.

What is there to do? Moves need to be made pronto because the way we are GIVING UP runs more than the Mets actually scoring runs themselves has got to stop.

-Gee & Francisco to AAA (if Francisco can't be moved, reassign him to middle relief)
-Release Acosta
-Hefner, Hampson & Egbert to Mets
-McHugh promoted to AAA
-Olson moved to the AAA pen

As far as the Wright-Collins thing goes, it's nothing to get worked up about. We'll forget about it by next week anyway. I cannot blame Wright for being angry for being taken out being the competitor he is. We rarely see Wright blow up like that anyway. When was the last time Wright got legit pissed? When he got tossed by the ump a few seasons ago on a strike 3 call? However, I can't blame Collins either. Don't forget though, if something went wrong like say, Wright taking another fastball to the noggin, we'll be in deeper shit. Also people, don't even start about Wright "showing up the manager". Drop it, especially if you're of the "Wright has no heart and is too soft" variety. Just shut up.

This entire thing is Carrasco's fault. Hey, how about you not give up a HR in what was already considered a blowout game, so you don't have to even remotely think about plunking the next batter that came up? Dummy......
He should apologize to Wright for even putting him in the position where he felt the need to defend his baseball honor by going out there to get plunked himself.

Alex,

You've been watching Wright for years, as have I. You know that he rarely expresses emotion like that and he falls in line pretty much all the time. This was an anomaly - an outlier on his list of behavior and that's why I feel it won't happen again.

That being said, he did admit to being wrong and went to damage control in the post-game work, so, that's a testament to the way he normally acts. If something like this happens again, i'll eat my words and admit to being wrong. - but i doubt that it will.

This Wright/TC thing was a no win situation.

I think TC was right to do it. If the game is 4-0, then no. But 8-0 is different. You have no idea what the mindset of the guy with the ball in his hand is. He could throw at Wright Estes style, Cole Hamels style or Matt Cain style. You just don't know.

If Wright got hit, and was shelved for significant time, the season is done and TC could be done too.

Wright was correct in wanting to go out there and be the leader and take the hit he had coming. I'm not sure how you can get on him for showing emotion like that. Frankly, it was a breath of fresh air.

Honestly, I'm glad our manager looks at this team as having a chance and based on the bad luck we've seen over the last 5 years, he recognizes putting Wright out there just to get hit is in no way the best interest of the team.

Hey Alex,

I understand the viewpoint that he was being disrespectful and for all intents of purpose, I can't truly disagree with that. However, I didn't believe Wright had that kind of mean streak in him - a good leader can't be calm all the time. His interviews are always the calmest of the calm. So it's nice to see some kind of edge from him, since a decent amount of people paint or desire David to be a captain.

This isn't something Wright will likely do again - I don't think he's going to make a habit of showing up his manager, so i'm ok with it at this point. It was definitely in the heat of the moment. David definitely respects Terry, as well.

Collins is not the manager of the future nor does he have a good track record dealing with vets. So if one of them would be on their way out, it's likely Terry anyway. Makes me wonder.
