I wouldn’t necessarily call it a slasher but yeah the end result will be less extra base hits but a higher average. Honestly maybe he just decided to be a #2 hitter.

First of all I asked how someone like Miggy could be so good last year in a small sample but so bad this year. I guess it’s possible that the guy is just an awful reliever but decent spot starter.
As a Met Batista has a 3.21 ERA in 8 starts. Does he give me a warm and fuzzy feeling? Uh no. Obviously at his age and ability he doesn’t go very deep in games usually. Also that has to do with the fact that he is always being stretched out from a reliever. Last nights 7 innings had the Brewers guessing all night which is exactly what you want out of a swing man.

He is what he is and for some reason people don’t look past that. It’s not a sexy name or flashy stats but for his career he has 246 starts and a 4.45 ERA. I will take that for a swing-man any day.”

I think people forget that Batista really is a Starter and most of our issues with him were due to putting him in a pen and he was not getting his consistency a starter really needs to get his stuff working.

He;s not going to have a lot of dominating games thats not the type of pitcher he is but he can serve as a decent 5th starter if given the chance.

If anyone has a problem with Batista they should not put it on batista but on the fact we all knew there was a good chance to lose a starter with Santana coming back from surgery and did not prepare for that. If we had Pelfrey getting hurt would have been prepared for!

Has anyone noticed how Murphy has changed his swing from last year. I have not heard it mentioned by the TV guys. He is a slasher now and not pulling like he did last year. It’s working for his average, but his extra bases and HR’s should be less.

1) I NEVER said Tejada was a bum. He’s not. I think his ceiling is that of an average SS.

2) I NEVER said Ike Davis sucks. Where do you get your info? Certainly not here on MMO. He’s had some trouble with his swing mechanics. Everybody knows it but not everybody is able to diagnose it.

3) I NEVER said Reese Havens is some sort of a godsend. His potential in my view is better than Ruben Tejada’s if he ever gets past his injuries.

4) Don’t tell me to STFU. It degrades you as a common, vile person. You’re defining yourself, not defining me.

5) You seem envious and resentful of David Wright. You can do better than you’re doing. It’s up to you.

6) You wanted special favorable treatment for Jose — treatment for a guy who demanded six years and $100 Million bucks, while most workers have to get by with $40K to $60K yearlly. He and his agent, Peter Greenberg, must have thought they would be able to diddle with the Mets through the press. Only the greatest players can pull off that Ringling Brothers stunt. Certainly Jose and Peter can’t. My own view is that Jose, a fine but no longer great player, will be traded by the Marlins before Year 4. Check out his contract for reasons why this is likely.

Ike enter the season with more pressure than wright, wright is playing for a contract extention, ike is playing to establish himself as one of the best 1B in the game as he was touted as. Wright is playing more loosely imo because the team had no expectations to win, making it easy for him to be as goof as he has been imo. If he struggle and did bad he’d be traded and that’s it.. Although he should be now that he’s on fire. get as many kids in the minors as we can, isn’t that the plan?

Answer the question. You think that Wright is playing well because there is no pressure and he is playing for a contract. (Those two things contradict themselves already.) Yet you also think that Ike is playing poorly because he doesn’t have Beltran’s protection (even though he never hit behind Ike) and is feeling pressure to carry the team? Is that correct?

As for Ike, if he truly is feeling the pressure of trying to be a HR hitter then maybe he should stop. Come on, we all hope that Ike shakes out of this but he is just a mess right now and it’s not because of protection or pressure other than the pressure of sucking it up through May.

Even you cannot be this stupid… When the team was entering the season as the team to beat in the NL you don’t think players were feeling the pressure? Ask Wright about his K in 2008… The thing with davis is he’s viewed as the thumper of this team.. Wright has only 4 HR all season..

Kind of a Catch 22 in my mind.
If we have even a remote chance of trading FF at the trade deadline, we’ve almost got to show he’s a closer and is somewhat effective. Remove him from that role and that limits that chance considerably.
Leave him in that role and there’s probably a 50/50 chance he blows the lead for us.

I did find one thing interesting, moving on from your whinny debate.

In the article about Wright’s extension they mentioned how Mets officials believed that Wright was more interested in staying.

“The Mets always believed Reyes would sign with whichever team offered him the most money. They are optimistic that Wright’s affinity for New York will play a greater role in negotiations with him.”

I wonder if that was because Reyes took more of a discount the first time, didn’t want to remain in NY to start with, I am not really sure what to make of that comment. As for Wright having more of a draw to stay in NY? I could see that. He grew up a Mets fan and loves the NY life. Reyes I think had to be drawn by the Miami culture even if he was torn about wanting to stay in NY which we will never know.

And to answer you’re question, yes, to me DW is STILL unclutch until proven otherwise, this team we all knew is not going anywhere and imo they won’t, some players do not feel the pressure to perform as before based on hyped etc.. He can now play as good as he can or as bad as he can and we will be fine because this team enter the season with ZERO EXPECTATION!!!!
Good for him that is doing good, but it’s ironic and amazing how when another player is doing good we get to attached him with contract talk or extention.. But not MR CAPTAIN, David wright.. He does everything the wright way!!

Come on Alex, 56 points above his career average in BA, 43 points above in OBP, 55 points above his SLG %, 39 points above his OPS+. His OPS+ was 19 points higher than his BEST season.

Also, I have already admitted that perhaps playing for an extension could enter Wright’s mind. I have also said that I think last year he was pissed at himself for letting his teammates and himself down. I think those two things combined with being healthy could have lead to this hot start. I do know that offensively and defensively he supposedly worked his tail off much of the off-season with Timmy T and his college coach.

My point remains, so what if playing for an extension was part of his motivation? Does that mean they should not extend him? Because if it does then that would have also applied to Reyes.

Alex, do you know how many times Beltran hit after Davis in their Met careers?

So you are saying that Ike feels pressure that he has to hit HR because Beltran is gone? And that last year because he had Beltran he thought he could be a line drive hitter? That is about the most foolish thing I have ever heard you say.

Also, now you are switching back to your attack on OBP. Maybe you should ask Keith what he now thinks about this Met offense and approach. As he said last night it’s not a team focused on the walk it is a team full of players with good eyes at the plate. Keep in mind that the guy you are wishing we had back exemplified this approach. Last year his OBP for the Mets was over 100 points higher than his BA. I guess he did that by hacking away. Good lord since when did not making an out become a bad thing?

1) Originally you tried to say anything negative abouit Reyes was off limits because, as you pleaded, he was from the DR. I should be more understanding you said.
2) You have also said for a million times that Wright is UNCLUTCH, even though you never could define what it means. In the past you looked at something Wright did or didn’t do and said it was because he was UNCLUTCH. Again, you only looked at results you wanted to disparage and implied it was because of something David lacked. You and your lackey friends such as Bayonne kept it up endlessly.
3) Now some of you are saying David’s success is tied to a contract situation. Suddenly the UNCLUTCH argument has disappeared faster than a pair of hubcaps on the Grand Central Parkway. He must now be CLUTCH, must he not?
4) Now you’re implying that Ike Davis is UNCLUTCH since without Beltran, a player who never asked to be dragged into your fantasy, Ike can’t cut the cake. Beltran is Beltran, and though I expect Ike to get back on track, he’s no Beltran
