Only hope for Philly was their pitching but even with Howard and Utley returning you still need guys to get on base or else solo HR ain't gonna save that team.

I was one who didn't think they could continue to comeback but after beating Paplebon Mon and then Blanton, who had been pitching good lately, yesterday's game was a bonus and Mets players decided that 2 of 3 was not enough and fought hard for the sweep.

I'm very impressed with team despite Ike and Duda's slow start they continue to play hard and with Ike hopefully finding his swing and Duda regaining lost weight this team will have hitting to make games tough against NL East.

even better, the last 11 they were supposed to start, counting the 3 that kendrick made in place of Lee.

they won the first 3, and are now 3-11 in their rotation spots. That is absolutely mind boggling.

Oh, they will put on a run at some point. hopefully it will be too little too late though.

and this year, they are so dependant on the rotation carrying them, that a couple more stumbles there (like the lee injury) and the team may not have enough gas in the tank to mount a real run.

also, I can guarantee that old Chollee is going to fix the pen the old fashioned way. Beat the SPs like a rented mule. those guys are going to keep pitching until their arms fall off or the game ends.

Outside of Papelbon in that Philly BP, they don't have much of one right now. And I thought ours was inconsistent of late. Maybe they should have spent a little less money for a closer and a little more money for other pieces.

This Philly series we did what Philly has done so well for the past several years prior to this one: came back in the late innings a few runs down to win it. How can you not enjoy that sweep?

Not sure how long this will last, especially with no clear #5 starter for at least the rest of May - and losing Thole for what I think might be an extended DL stint.
I'm just going to enjoy the ride and hoping for a series win in FL.

Makes more sense now, I thought that's what Gregg meant.
I also forgot to mention Jenrry Mejia is on his way back. Between Mejia, Harvey, Familia, Hefner and some veteran relievers like Chuck James, Fernando Cabrera, Jack Egbert and Elvin Ramirez (who are all pitching great in Buffalo), this team suddenly has a lot of pitching depth if Batista, Acosta and Carrasco continue to struggle. Those names could provide a HUGE lift down the stretch. Cross your fingers the lineup stays healthy, because if they do, watch out, I may actually be watching the Mets instead of the Jets on Sundays in September.

" .... Remember a few years back, when the Mets lost a game in Philly because Marlon Byrd was out of the baseline on a double play ...."

It was Marlon Anderson -- not Marlon Byrd ..... Marlon Byrd has never played for the Mets ..... regardless, it was still sweet to see Victorino get called on it. And the failed show-string catch turned into a triple was icing on the cake.

The Phillies look old and disinterested .... Victorino looks over-weight and slow.

I just love it. Clearly a team in transition .... and with a bloated payroll, they are clearly on the down side of their "dynasty".

You can't understate the performance and guts of this team in this series. I honestly can't remember a more well-played and inspiring 3 games than these. And to do it on our arch-rivals turf...glorious (yeah! stick it to the Phils!).
The Mets had all 7 of their extra base hits in the 6th inning or later last night. They put up 10 runs on a night where Cliff Lee started and with a lineup that featured Vinny Rottino, Justin Turner, Rob Johnson and Scott Hairston.
I know it's May 10, but I'm starting to buy into this team as p*****f contenders (trying not to jinx it). They have the heart and right now, they have the hitting.
I would feel alot better about their chances if Pelfrey was healthy to solidify the rotation. But if they are in contention later in the year, Hefner, Harvey or Familia filling that spot could provide a huge lift after Batista hits the bucket.
First time since 2006 the Mets got a sweep in Philadelphia, anyone else feeling any omens?
