Wright Scratched, Game, Preview: Nationals @ Mets
UPDATE: Mets just reported that David Wright has been scratched from tonight’s game due to a bruised right pinky. Ronny Cedeno will play third base and bat second.
Starting Lineup
- Ruben Tejada, ss
- Ronny Cedeno, 3b
- Daniel Murphy, 2b
- Jason Bay, lf
- Lucas Duda, rf
- Justin Turner, 1b
- Scott Hairston, cf
- Mike Nickeas, c
- Dillon Gee, rhp
The Mets look to continue their fast start to the season tonight by clinching their second consecutive series win. Last night, the Mets improved to 4-0 with a walk-off win thanks to Daniel Murphy (#imwith28). If you didn’t see last night’s game, Mike Pelfrey wasn’t terrible, as he did strike out 8 batters in 5.2 innings, at times looking dominant, but in the end he allowed 10 hits and 3 earned runs. At that point it was a battle of the bullpens and the Mets bullpen kept the Amazin’s in the game until the 9th inning rally started by Baxter, continued by Tejada and finished by Murphy. Tonight Dillon Gee gets the start as he takes on Ross Detwiler.
Dillon Gee makes his first start of the season for the Amazin’s tonight. Dillon Gee last season pitched in 30 games, 27 starts last season with an ERA of 4.43 over 160.2 innings of work. He made four starts against the Nationals last year as he totaled 25.0 innings with a 2-0 record and a 3.60 ERA. The Nationals have the following numbers against Dillon:
Espinosa 1-11
Werth 3-12
Desmond 3-13, HR
Zimmerman 2-12
Bernadina 1-9
Rasmos 1-6, 2B
The Mets bats will get a crack at Ross Detwiler, who won the fifth starter spot in Spring Training. He replaced John Lannon, who has been vocal in demanding a trade from AAA (however he also bombed his first start down there so, take that for what its worth). Detwiler has had some time in 4 of the last 5 seasons in the major leagues. Last year he pitched in 15 games, 10 starts for the Nationals pitching 66.0 innings with a 3.00 ERA. During that time, he pitched in three games against the Mets, 2 of them starts where he pitched 10.0 innings allowing 8 earned runs on 11 hits. The Mets have the following numbers Ross:
Wright 4-8, 2 2B, HR
Duda 1-5
Bay 1-4
Turner 1-4
Davis 1-1

An article by

This is a very winable game tonight! Lets keep rolling!
LETS GO METS!
not going to lie i was holding my breath when I first saw the title of the article. I was expecting to hear he re-agruvated his torn abdomen or something horrible like that. A brusied pinky I can semi deal with just sucks its on his throwing hand.
O well rest up Wright, and while your relaxing get talking with Ike and help him get going! LETS GO METS!!!
Dillon Gee doen’t get enough respect. He had a very solid rookie season last year. He had a few bad starts at the end of the year because he ran out of gas, which inflated his stats, and made it seem like he pitched worse than he really did. But for most of the season he pitched really good – There were even people talking about him possibly making the all star game!
He’s also looked really good in spring.
A bruised right pinkie???…..are you effing kidding. Please don’t start this stupid shyt now. And he’s 4 for 8 against this kid? If I told my boss my pinky hurts and its bruised, do you think he would tell me to go home and rest up? No, he would say pull ur skirt up, and get up on that roof and lay some shingles! I love David Wright, but man the f@ck up bro. Get out there and play baseball for christ sake…sorry, but with the momentum we have going, I really don’t wanna start hearing about our star players getting these stoopid little injuries.
Are you expected to swing a bat or throw a ball better than 99.9% of the world over the course of 162 games?
No? OK, just checking.
Agreed 100% I wouldnt be bothered if the Mets traded Wright away before his deal is up.
At some point we have to face the facts Wright is not a winner, he doesnt have a winners mentality he has the mentality, toughness & voice of a 14yr old girl.
thanks for bringing nothing to the conversation yet again, jimmy.
Yeah we are off to a hott streak, but I would rather Wright sit out a game or 2 and let his pinky bruise heal and come back just as strong as when he left compared to him playing tonight possibly hurting the finger more.
Also it is his throwing hand that has the bruise on it, so you add in the chance that if he rushes to turn a DP or even if hes just trying to throw a routine out, his pinky may affect how he holds\throws it with may affect his accuarcy with can lead to a few errors.
Fact is we dont know how much that bruise affects him and sitting him out is better for the team right now and for him. And what if the bruise affects his swing (that he just seemed to get going good again) and he has a few bad AB’s? that can cause him to try tto tinker with it again and we all saw how that worked out the last few seasons. Plus we all saw what a bruise did to Ike. So let the man get back to 100% and LETS GO METS !!!
Uh if he can’t even grip a bat how would you expect him to play. Sucks though.
I don’t care what anyone says….back in the 80′s, players didn’t have days off beccause their little pinky hurt….get the f@ck outta here…get out there and play ball and earn your millions….ok, so he might not be 100%…still better than not having him in the lineup…I’m sick of these big millionaire babies
Ya, well, cocaine numbs you up pretty good.
So you are saying they played when they had a broken finger and couldn’t grip a bat. Man you are an internet tough guy huh?
I’m sorry. I’m not an internet tough guy. I’m just a frustrated Mets fan. I guess I didn’t realize it was broken and he couldn’t even grip a bat….that just figures, our star 3rd baseman breaks his finger sliding back into first on the 4th game of the year, after starting the year on a tear. Now he’ll be out 2 weeks, and will be struggling to get that grove back when he comes back….oh well…nothing surprises me anymore with this team when it comes to pure shyt bad luck
i feel the same way. I was at first more relieved to hear it was just a bruise so it didnt bother me too much. But now a fracture. Idk anymore. Didnt gget to watch the game cus i took the lil 1 to the circus but i was watchin the updates on mets.com on my phone, but can anyone tell me if they looked a little flat playing tonight after the announcement with wright
I don’t tink they were flat. Detweiler had very good stuff tonight and they had a AAA lineup on the field. Cedeno was hitting 2nd and Bay 4th which is all you really need to know. I can’t see a team that’s 4-0 and has had success against Detweiler in the past being flat.
also back in the 80′s hairbands ruled the earth, computers only had 64 kilobytes of memory and cell phones weighed 20+ lbs. The morel of the story?alot of the stuff we did in the 80′s didnt work out great and we learned and started to do stuff better.
You would honestly rather him play hurt and “earn his mllions” then get hurt worse and sit home for months and months while collecting those millions?
Or sit out a game or 2 and the come back and collect millions?
Good point….thnx for calming me down….lol….let’s go mets….offense ain’t there tonight…let’s see if we can crack this young phenom tomorrow night. We always seem to do good against the young “star” pitchers, and suck against the rookie no namers 5th starters from the Nationals for example
no problem, on a side note tthe 570 in your name isnt your area code by chance is it? Lol i know random right?
Yeah bud, that’s my area code. Couldn’t think of anything else to put…..its the area code of eastern PA, in the Poconos……..a lot of Phillies fans around here… sucks
I’m from over by wilkes barre, so it’s my area code too and you don’t hafta tell me what it’s like being surrounded by philly fans. 80% of the people i know are philly fans, 15% yankee fans, 3% Mets fans and then the other 2% is eithor red sox or what ever team won the previous world series haha
Ah, the Achilles Pinky!
