Wright Could Be Headed For DL, Source Says Satin Would Get The Call
David Wright was held out of Friday’s lineup and could very well land on the DL if his fractured pinkie finger doesn’t show some signs of improvement by tomorrow according to Terry Collins.
Wright was very concerned about his public perception regarding his toughness and pain tolerance:
It’s not about me sucking it up and playing through pain. I functionally can’t grip a bat or grip a baseball. This isn’t banged-up. I take great pride in going out there and playing through pain. But this would be stupid. I would be hurting the team. It doesn’t make sense.
The Mets plan to wait to see how Wright is before making a decision on whether to put him on the DL, but a tram source told Adam Rubin of ESPN that Josh Satin would be “poised to take Wright’s roster spot”.
Satin, 27, hit .200 with two RBIs in 25 at-bats with the Mets last September, and is currently hitting .250 with a homer and four RBIs through eight games with the Bisons this season.
If true, this is kind of an odd way to go for the Mets, especially with third baseman Zach Lutz tearing it up and already on the 40 man roster. Lutz is batting .333/.400/.593 with two homers and six RBI in 31 AB for Buffalo.
In the short term, Daniel Murphy could slide over to third base for Saturday’s game if Wright cant play, with either Ronny Cedeno or Justin Turner slotting in at second.
It’s never easy for the New York Mets, is it?

David Wright is not in tonight’s Mets lineup against the Phillies.
He is still bothered by his broken right pinkie, which he fractured diving back into first base on Monday.
Justin Turner will replace him at third base and bat third in the lineup.

Sad thing, but he will be back sunday to win the series i guess . I like Turner on 3rd and he can swing the bat for sure, keep fighting Mets , beat those Phucking Phillies .
Even with no Wright I still like this lineup.
Tejada, Murphy 1-2 is good and Bay is soooo due for a good game so why not tonight vs Lee?
Now thats a statement Sir !!!!
LoL
MR. N predicting the future right there!
Ha! Now that went well.
Hey Angelo, what are the odds right? Atta boy Jason Bay.
No need to rush him back a day or to and risk setting him back a week or two.
Let him pinch hit once see how it feels? I am ok with that. Pinkies don’t do much.
I guess we can be cautious. I hope it doesn’t funkify him. He came out stoked!
Perhps Ike and Bay say get up on these shoulders tonight. Lee is more vulnerable these days.
LGM 4 ever
AdamRubinESPN (Beat Writer / Columnist) TC: No swinging for Wright today. Pinkie still swollen. Will try tomorrow. If unsuccessful, then he’ll go to DL.

So if Wright goes on the 15 day dl retroactive to Tuesday If I am reading this right he should be eligible to come off the dl April 25 vs the Marlins.
There was a tweet saying that Turner and Cedeno would handle the duties at 2nd with Murphy moving to 3rd if Wright goes on the dl. So as Pete mentioned before I am guessing they call up Lutz to play 3rd who is hitting well so far and would give Collins that lefty righty option at 3rd.
MNJ, if they wait long enough on Wright, as you mentioned, and he’d only be out seven-ten days because his DL stint was retroactive, it may not be worth bringing up Lutz only for a week. If they were going to act on Lutz, they shold have pulled the trigger ASAP.
Would you then say that if it is indeed for 7-10 days then because of how well Lutz has been doing they would not want to disturb his momentum for lack of a better word and call up someone like Satin then?
I guess we should also consider the Mets may not want to start Lutz’s clock where Satin’s has already been started.
Exactly. No reason to do that for just a week. You’d start his clock and waste an option.
Every guy on the 40 man roster playing in the minors has used their opion for ths year. As to other comments, glad that some here are so concerned about a player doing well in the minors that they DONT want him playing in the majors. I guess too many think that winning in the big leagues is now irrelevant.
miss me donal????? saw your recent posts. I see you still post with the same mental limitations as always. See you someday soon…..
Options are on a year by year basis, not by call up so for instance a guy like Valdespin has two options years left after 2012 since this is his first year on the 40. Anyone currently on the 40 can be brought up simply by clearing a spot on the 25 either through releasing a player or by DLing a guy.
The only players the Mets don’t have options on are Acosta and Torres. In addition options don’t exist for players with 5 or more years in the Majors since they have the right to reject being sent down.
To me if they move Murphy to 3rd for Wright then they are giving up on the Murphy at 2nd experiment. It makes no sense to shift your starting 2nd baseman who is still learning to 3rd for a week so Turner and Cedeno can play 2nd instead of 3rd.
Isn’t the only reason Murphy is at 2nd is because to get his bat in the lineup and that they can’t play him at 3rd or 1st with Wright and Davis there? If that is the case with Wright on the dl isn’t the team better now moving Murphy to 3rd?
Better for what? Is the goal just to make Murphy a utility bat or a 2nd baseman this year. Are you moving him back to 2nd when Wright returns? Will he be a better 2nd baseman then? To me either do it commit to it and leave him there or make him a pinch hitter or trade him. Be fair to Murphy for once.
I’m not convinced that Turner is that much of an upgrade at 2nd over Murph.
I think you are not far from the truth USMF.
Defensively, Turner isn’t an upgrade over Murph. He certainly is below him offensively as well.
Only positive thing I can say about Turner is he can play a couple IF positions.
So if you think Turner is no upgrade defensively at 2b SRT would you agree that if Murphy is moved to 3rd and Turner plays 2b it is an indictment on how poorly the Mets think of Murphy defensively at 2b?
Good point. I’d have to say yes. Thing is, I don’t think Murph is going to be any better at third – his ML record there is too SSS.
If Wright hits the DL, I’d really rather see them call up a true 2nd or 3rd baseman and Murph plays the other position. But I can understand them hesitating on that if it’s only going to be 11 days or so. Still, I rather they do it than not.
Satin and Lutz both righties both on the 40-man Satin plays 2b Lutz 3b. Defensively I couldn’t say which of the 2 have the better glove and I would add that I am not sure the process for starting a players clock toward free agency works other than I know if a player is called up the clock starts and Satin was called up last year. Who you call up SRT?
Of the two I’d rather see Lutz but I’m willing to bet it’s Satin for just the reason you mentioned….the arbitration clock.
Lutz is definitely the hotter bat. He extended his hitting streak today to 8 games with a double.
BTW Wheeler in his 1st inning struck out the side but I should note that his last start his trouble came in the 3rd inning so there is that.
I do feel that no matter what happens to David, Murphy should stay at second. He is confused enough playing the keystone base that we don’t have to add any more to that by having him trying to approach how to handle third.
If he was a smart second baseman with limited fielding abilities then I would have no reservations but since he isn’t, let’s not make it any tougher on him than it already is.
Ed Coleman informs us that the Mets are now looking at placing David on the DL if he still has pain tomorrow. Considering he was first slated to play on Wednesday and then placing the onus on David’s back by stating it would be left to him to determine if he could play with the pain is just another example of the front office believing it has to stonewall the fans once more. As our good friend T has already said, one should not to take anything the front office says as Gospel and as I had added, integrity dealing with the public had been thrown out the window a long time ago.
But Wright and Torres both out with nobody to fill in? Though not powerhouse players, what even happened to Willie Harris, Nick Evans and Jason Pridie? Not to mention having a more powerful bench if our lineup still included Jose Reyes and even a Carlos Beltran (with his .370 BA, 3 HR, 4 RBI and .452 OBP. Doesn’t matter, the team is already looking ahead to 2016 and beyond.
I don’t know TRS I am of the opinion Murphy is only at 2b cause there is nowhere else to play him and they need his bat in the lineup. If you asked Collins for the next 10 days how is the team better with Murphy at 3rd or 2b he would probably say 3rd.
I don’t think it is fair to Murphy but Murphy at 2b is because they can’t play him anywhere else right now. You make a fair point of committing to Murphy at 2b and that may indeed end up being the case and I would fine with that. But if you asked me what is better Murphy at 2nd and Turner at 3rd or Murphy at 3rd and Turner at 2b I would say the latter is the better alternative.
To me you either do or do not. If Ike goes down are you moving Duda too? How are these out of position players supposed to learn a new position if you move them back and forth every 10 games.
Your point is a valid one. I just see how Murphy got 2b and for me him being there was just until they can find a better alternative. I don’t really believe that Murphy’s future long-term is at 2b with the Mets.
Murph is an intersting player. If he is to be traded off as Gary Cohen has suggested; then play him where he has the best chance of success. That seems to be third base. The man can hit and deserves to play everyday. Put him on third and move Wright to left field. Move Bay to the bench.
During pregame on WFAN Collins at one point when asked about moving Murphy to 3rd said they got some guys a lot more comfortable than Murphy is at 2b.
Josh Satin will be called up if Wright lands on the DL. Murph to 3B, Turner & Cedeno share 2B, Satin on bench.
