Worth mentioning Maniac, what I am sick of with Reyes, Omar etc is the boo-who woe is me, why didn’t we sign Reyes, why didn’t we do this, why did Sandy let Reyes walk, imagine how good we’d be with Reyes yada yada yada.

I don’t mind talking about the fact he isn’t here or life after Reyes. What I am tired of is people living in the past and closing their eyes, throwing a coin in any water well they can find and WISHING he were here.

He’s not. He’s gone.

The vast majority of the talent Minaya brought in is still in the minors as it takes time to rebuild an entire system and some of what is up here is still learning on the job even 4 years after coming up and a big part of that is because he spent many of the best draft picks on immediate results and others on college relief pitchers.

For me anyway the issue wasn’t that Minaya didn’t produce any talent as it was that he didn’t produce more of it and more well rounded talent especially since that is his strength. He also didn’t pick through other teams farm systems and didn’t give much of a chance to minor leaguers he inherited.

Development is as vital to the process as identifiying the right guys to begin with and that took a backseat to immediacy and that was to our detriment both when most of them came up and even now with many of them being closer to FA than they really should be and still learning their position.

Pelfry, Niese, Mejia, Tejada, Fern, Kunz, Thole, Milledge, and Parnell didn’t really help much their first and in some cases 2nd go around while Murphy, Davis, Gee and Joe Smith did and even Murph could have been developed better.

Perhaps being “encouraged” to go overslot as we supposedly were last year (for the first time I can ever recall) was an admission by ownership that they had to change the business plan instead of lavishing huge multi million dollar 4 and five year contracts on players entering the decline phase of their careers or more realistically an admission by ownership that Minaya wasn’t given all the chances to do the very things that his skills were strongest at.

How that affected Minaya’s decision making process we’ll never know but the truth is we have a great chance to have a well conceived mix of 5 homegrown OFer’s here in a couple of years, a chance for a catching tandem (Cordero/Maron and the chance of Pena) and middle IF (Tejada/Havens/Gamboa/Valdespin) and some strong pitching but we couldn’t get from 2006-2008 to the present because the rebuild of the minors didn’t really begin in earnest until 2008.

Much of what was picked or signed before that went in trades or was zoomed up before it’s time and a crash was inevitable.

That’s fair Vinny but a lot of the same people that were killing Omar are now jumping on his bandwagon and mostly because they don’t like that a group of people were too quick to praise Alderson when he got here. Omar is just as responsible for the teams plight as he is for the players now starting to develope. When he got fired the criticism was fair. Some took it to far but a lot of it was fair. When he got fired the ML team was a mess and there wasn’t a whole lot of ML ready talent on the horizon to get excited about except Ike. Teams weren’t exactly knocking down our door to get any of our prospects. That’s starting to change. People around here should be excited about the future, not harping on who killed Omar and who praised Alderson or vice versa. I don’t see any of you defending Alderson being called the worst GM in franchise history after 6 months on the job. Either way who cares. the season started, the team is off to a great start and we have some kids down on the farm to get excited about. Instead after the 3rd straight win yesterday against one of our most hated rivals, we get some people saying this is still an all Omar team. Let’s not forget how the rug was pulled out from under us last year, and you can’t build a team with a computer.Yada yada yada. I guarantee you if the team lost the first 3 games all we would hear is how Sandy really had money but doesnt want to win, and because of a horrendous offseason we’re 0-3. Enough already.

Jessep and Fonzie,

You can’t just forget that Omar was killed almost every day on here for not developing any talent. It happend on here every day for the last two years or so – He was made into an evil villian that destroyed the franchise. So now, that have a very nice group of young players who are playing very well from Minaya, we are going to bring that up. Because he did not do a bad job developing talent, he in fact, did a very nice job.

I remember Jessep was also tired of talking about Reyes but then was the first one to mention him after the Marlins opener.

Admit the truth Jessep. You’re not tired of talking about these people, you’re just tired of letting anyone else but you talk about them.

Well said Jessep. It’s time to stop hating on the new Met FO who inherited some decent talent but also had to steer through some rocky shores. It’s only through the continued development of what Minaya produced and the addition of top talent that any of us are going to get what we all want.

Exactly Fonzie. And every excuse or statement made about “these are Omar’s guys” can easily be refuted and begin a never-ending debate with no ending

If Beltran is kept last year, Duda starts this year as a rookie with limited playing time experience
If Reyes is kept, Tejada is in the minors
Maybe Terry Collins as Manager has influence
Maybe Bob Geren does? Maybe Hudgens has something to do with the hitting from this weekend?

Maybe the guys developing the talent and working with the guys in the minors have more to do with their time on the field than whether Minaya or Alderson acquired them?

At the end of the day, Who…Cares? Every game isn’t a reason to jump into the “which GM was better” conversation. Almost everybody who is so-pro Omar now, was so very anti-Omar when he was here. So then how about we wait until Alderson gets 5-6 years and then 2 years removed from the Mets to judge him since that is all it took for so many to like Omar?

I’d rather talk about the guys in uniform. Leave the “I love sandy I hate Omar” vice versa chat to the off-season when the only other thing to do is watch the Jets implode.

You’re not the only one growing tired of the Omar vs Sandy routine every day. The team starts off 3-0 and we still have to hear how the rug was pulled out from them last year or who’s players make up the roster or the stupid computer analysis references, etc… How about talking about what’s happening on the field and just rooting for the guys in the uniform. I can’t imagine another teams fanbase comparing front office personnel instead of discussing the teams play on the field. Enough already.
