And it's the YANKEES that wanted the game in PSL, due to a long travel time back from Miami to Tampa.

The walls came in a couple of feet, it's not like it's a new park. They can get a feel for it on Field 7 in Digital Domain. And take fly balls if they want Tomorrow Morning.

More important to get the game in every day I think. The regular grind of setting up and preparing for a game, and getting a couple of AB and all that. They'd have had to take an hour bus ride to the airport anyway, only 3 hours to Tampa, it's really a non-issue.

I'm not really sure, but don't the teams make their own schedules for ST? Or does MLB have some input on that? I thought is was pretty much up to each club.

still, not really that big of a deal. They will get home early this evening, and anyone playing tomorrow pretty much relaxed today anyway!

Just hope that practicing on the back field got them used to the new dimensions (more an issue for the OFs) but even if they had today off, would not have done much more than a walk through. Hell, they probably fly into Loquardia, just swing by on the way out!

at least the Braves won't have any exposure at all to it.

Probably because the schedule makers didn't or do not care about the Mets/Yanks Spring Training games. Don't forget the last time the Yanks traveled to PSL was 1995.

The Spring schedule was set and announced on November 14th. The regular season schedule was set and announced 2 months earlier on September 13th.

Therefore, you can put the blame more on the Mets than the schedule makers. They wanted the revenue from the PSL home game, so they had to agree on the road game. They knew their schedule 2 months before they ever had to put the Spring schedule out.

Watching that game today, I'm really wondering 'why bother'?
After the third inning, I can't say I even knew most of those guys who came in as substitutions for the Mets. Have to assume the same scrubs or low A guys were in there for the Yankees too.
Other than the one inning of work from Pettitte, there didn't seem to be much point to that game.

But hey, Ike hit his 3rd HR in as many games.

the regular schedule is set first, so they did it on purpose. I assume they wanted the match up bad enough to put up with it?

I don't think it is that big of a deal though. They will be in NY by dinner time (I assume they were just going straight from the game, flying out of Tampa),

per the post, not sure what difference it makes playing in NY vs. Atlanta. other than the flight being a little shorter? At least it inconveniences the braves!

a day might have been nice, but they are starting to click, so keep it rolling!

Hard to rationalize it. Maybe because guys like Wright and Torres need the AB's?

I'm still trying to understand why the Mets wouldn't have wanted to be back in NY a day early before the opener so they could take practice - especially for the OFs who are going to be getting used to the new dimensions.
