Both Tejada and Duda were under consideration, but ultimately I chose Santana for his great job this week. Starting pitchers’ performances tend to go undervalued when it comes to this type of thing, and some people think only position players should get it, but if I feel a starting pitcher is more deserving, he’ll get it. As for your comment that the revamped bullpen cost the Mets a sweep, I completely disagree. The starting pitcher Friday, Chris Schwinden, gave up 6 runs (although 5 were earned), he was with the Mets last season. Manny Acosta gave up 7 runs in a third of an inning, he was here last year. Just looking at two pitchers who were here last year for that game, you have 13 runs given up, more than half. Don’t blame the revamped bullpen when most of the runs were attributed to pitchers here last year. Only new pitcher who gave up runs in that game was Ramon Ramirez who gave up 4, 3 earned.

I was a bit surprised Johan was lifted after 6 innings and 90 pitches as well. Only thing I can think of is b/c it’s the first time he pitched on normal day’s rest as opposed to an extra day – and TC didn’t want to push it.
