Rookies are adjusting and are very unpredictable. He probably made a mistake by starting very strong. When Willie Mays was a rookie he went into Deroucher’s office asking to be dropped back to the minors after an 0-25 slump. Leo showed patience and his baseball knowledge by sticking with him and letting him find himself. Having the fear of being benched or dropped to the minors can destroy an inexperienced major leaguer, especially on a team that isn’t very good. Fear is a distraction not a motivator. Just put his name on the lineup card in CF, work with him on the strikeouts, and he will produce and become an exciting steady, not a star but steady, center fielder.
