I tend to agree; however, your predictions are contingent upon the ball club remaining reasonably healthy.

Most glaring issue out of the box is “what do we do if Bay infected Ike with lousy hitter disease?”

Pelfrey is not a strikeout pitcher, he’s supposed to be a groundball pitcher. But as usual the bullpen had to work more than three innings.

I honestly haven’t heard too many throwing accolades Pelfs way. I think most are just satisfied that he didn’t implode with the Umps strikezone being tighter than a Clam’s ass and that alot of those baserunners became LOB’s.

One thing that is being over looked is the fact the Pelf had the bullpen busy all night.

We all know that this rotation is usually only going to be good for 6 innings a night. But at least all the other starters finish their innings and don’t get guys warming up in the first inning.

This pen is going to get a lot of innings, what we don’t need is Pelf having Batista warming up three times a night.

i would rather see Gee in the 4th spot , but Pelfrey is FOR SURE a 4 or 5 SP . Dont make him more bad then he is . See the average 4th SP guys around the league and you will ses Pelf is just in there . I LIKE THESE METS, i like the bench and the bullpen and i will enjoy every single win . Mets will get 85+ and that will probably be enough for the 2nd wild card .

On the other hand…

He was squeezed last night by an ump with a tight strike zone, and one blown called third strike from a “quality start”.

I think it’s something for Pelf to build on. His increased velocity is encouraging, as he is getting many more swings and misses. Historically, he gets into trouble when he doesn’t put hitters away. His strikeout capability will help him in this sense.

I’d like to see him develop a 2-seamer along the lines of Bobby Jones, Rick Reed & (most recently) Dillon Gee. That will help him against lefties, combined with a change-up or a slider down & in. Against righties, he’s better off challenging them with his 4-seamer early in the count and mixing his curveball & sinker later in the count. He must, MUST get better downward movement on his sinker and slider if he’s to be truly successful.

Big Pelf settled down, bent but didn’t break. I was hoping for more, but this is a start that he can build on with tangible areas for improvement.

There are Met fans making too much of Pelfrey’s performance last night? If so, they haven’t watched him pitch much in the past several years.

Pelfrey kept them in the game. Stuck out 8 but gave up too many hits. We managed to outscore the Nats with the walk off win.

I think for a #4 starter, he met expectations. He didn’t exceed and he didn’t disappoint. What last night did was buy Pelf another start or 2 before fans really get on him.
