I think the key to Ike’s recent better looks has to do with the fact he closed his stance more and is not getting more drive on the ball.

I agree missing all that time has a drastic affect on timing and it takes time to get up to speed on the timing for MLB pitching .
That is the one thing Minor League rehabbing and hitting off a tee or in a cage can not prepare you for!

Ike does appear to be coming out of it but mostly because he closed his stance a little more and is getting more drive on those pitches he does make contact on but would weakly ground out or hit for a lazy fly ball.

He may actually be turning the corner and if he gets hot watch out!

..and he’s also holding his hands higher. The other day I was complaining why his hands were so low because they weren’t like that last year when he raked.

I believe Ike’s slow start was because he missed so much time last season. I think that has messed up his timing (and I’m sure having valley fever in ST didn’t help) but it looks like he’s starting to get it back. Like you said, he had a good series at Colorado, and two of his outs were bullets hit right at the 2ndbaseman.

By the way, he’s not the only Mets hitter in recent years to struggle after coming back from injury.

Daniel Murphy hit .233 the 1st month and a half of 2011 after missing all of 2010

Carlos Beltran hit .204 his 1st month back from injury in 2011.

And Jose Reyes hit .210 in a little more over a month, after missing most of 09.

the BP has had some issues, but still very early to base much off of ERA. a few bad outings really skews that this early.

a big chunk of the damage in Co. (and as terry noted, not the best place to make decisions based on!) was on Acosta in that one inning. that certainly will tilt the overall #s! But, the pen has still had many, many games where they were stellar and shut down the other team, even after an early SP exit.

good news is, Ramirez seems to be settling back in. Don’t trust FF as far as I can throw him (as in, not very far), but hopefully he is more good than bad. If not, he won’t be closing for long!

I could see Terry wanting to scale back, and moving into some other role (in player development say). And not because he was forced into it.

I dont think Collins will be the manager next season regardless of how the Mets finish. I bet Backman takes the reins in 2013.
