Mets @ Phillies Game 2 Preview: Wright Is Back And Batting Third

David Wright took some nice swings in the batting cage today and afterward the Mets announced he would play today and be in today’s lineup, and batting third.

The Mets took the opener of the series last night by the score of 5-2 as the Mets powered 2 homers out of the ball park as the pitching staff kept striking out the Phillies lineup. In today’s match up, the Mets bats will go up against Vance Worley as the Mets send out Jon Niese. In his first start of the season, Niese flirted with history as he took a no hitter in the 7th inning. In that start Niese struck out 7 batters but was tagged for 3 earned runs as things started to unravel in the 7th. Last season he faced the Phillies 5 times over 27.2 innings and a 5.53 ERA over a 2-3 record. The Phillies have the following numbers against the Mets:

The Mets bats will take a crack at Vance Worley tonight, who in his first start of the season pitching 6 innings, allowing 1 run over 5 hits. He pitched in 5 games against the Mets last year, 4 starts, over 23.0 innings with a 3.13 ERA. Overall last season he pitched 131.2 innings with an ERA of 3.01 and a record of 11-3. The Mets have the following numbers against Vance:

  • Great that David’s back, but I see no rason why he couldn’t sit for one more day unless it’s a matter of the DL. With Turner’s numbers against Worley, he would have been a good choice. Of course, they could replace DW after a few innings.
