Game Preview
The Mets go for the sweep today as they look to win their third straight game against the Marlins. The Mets squeaked by the Marlins in the first game of the series and last night, after a second pitching duel of the series, the Mets were able to break it open in the eighth with a little luck and some timely hitting. This afternoon Jon Niese will get the nod for the Mets as he takes on Ricky Nolasco.
Jon Niese gets the start for the Amazin’s today with his 2-0 record and 2.89 ERA over 3 starts and 18.2 innings in the 2012 season. This will be Niese’s first start against the fish this year. Last season he made only start against the Marlins as he allowed 2 earned runs and 4 hits over 7 innings of work. The Marlins have the following numbers against Niese:
Infante 3-18, 2 2B
Sanchez 3-14, 2B
Ramirez 3-11, 2B, HR
Morrison 3-7, 2B
Stanton 0-4
The Mets bats will get their first crack at Ricky Nolasco this year. In 2012, Nolasco is 2-0 over 3 starts with a 3.93 ERA over 18.1 innings. In 2011, Ricky had a 10-12 record over 206.0 innings with a 4.67 ERA. Last season he made two starts against the Mets where he pitched 13.2 innings with an 0-2 record while posting a 3.93 ERA. Niese vs Nolasco should be a beauty, i expect a close one, but thats ok, a Quality start for Niese and big Ike gets the walk off hit , so sweet …
Get those brooms out.
All 9 homegrown. Nice…..
Valdespin in LF – has he ever played LF?
Three rookies or near rookies in the OF. Yikes!
A sweep would be nice.
for the lineup, I would really rather see Wright stay 3rd, and Duda cemented into the 4 hole.
tejada can hit 7th to break up all the lefties.
Keep that basic order, but flip flop Kirk and Tejada in the 1 and 7 spots, depending on a RH or LH SP.
murphy can stay in the 2 hole every day, catcher 8th, and the LF/IKe can be 5/6 in some order.
I said it in the desert with Ike struggling to me this gets the most out of the lineup. I like Murphy hitting 3rd. I don’t think Tejada hitting 7th does us much good.
Why no start for Baxter?
It will be the first time since 1971 Mets are fielding an all home-grown 1 thru 9 and first time ever in franchise history in a non-September game
t agee spent months and last couple of years rehashing the past every day, virtually criticizing any player over 29 and praising the farm teams of whoever is the hot team of the moment telling us that’s how it should be done. And planned out a virtually all-homegrown team for 2013 that included Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, and Jose Reyes, but no Capt. Kirk, no trades except for a minor league catcher from Cincinnati, and no free agent signings.
After all of that, after the last couple of years, after miles and miles and miles of long, drawn out novellas and manifestos (which originally had no paragraphs!) that dealt with either the past or the future but not the present – look what’s happening in the present, an all homegrown team.
Whoops.
