Looking over tonight's Milb box scores rough night for Peavey and Tapia. They only lasted 3 2/3 combined. On the flip side Mr Goeddel making his 1st start of the season piched rather well going 5 scoreless.

DenDecker 3 for 5 1/HR and TJ Rivera 2 for 5 1/HR had a good game at least.

Familia on the hill 2morrow for the Bisons.

I don't necessarily disagree with this.
I do think Den Dekker is further down on the development chart though than Kirk was, hence the reason Kirk got the call up.

I think Den Dekker needs at minimum another full year down there before considering him for the show.

Still far better than Kirk who struck out in 32% of his at bats in his time in Buffalo. It was always Kirk who was considered to be a long shot for the majors, not den Dekker. Most scouts only viewed Kirk as a possible 4th outfielder or platoon outfielder at best. He's doing gret now and looks and plays the part of a solid major leaguer after 13 games, but imagine what Dekker will do who had the better pedigree and all scouts agree he will be a plus defender, and most say with power>

Agreed.
Scouts seem to all agree he's a gold glove caliber defensive fielder.
Problem right now for this young man is his strike out rate.

'The issue is that the same long swing from the left side that produced all those extra-base hits is also leading to a lot of strikeouts. More than a lot; in fact, den Dekker whiffed in a brutal 29% of his Double-A at bats last season, which even with a sustainable .305 BABIP pulled his batting average way down. Despite a very solid 8+ career walk rate, he will not have success at the highest levels with that amount of K's. Perhaps a change in approach is in order, less selling out for the long ball and more contact which is perfectly fine from a center fielder. Either way, while K's will always be an issue, if he can just bring them down to a more manageable level -- perhaps in the low 20's -- his solid on-base skills, athletic power/speed mix and sterling defense at a premium position give him the chance to be a major league starter in the mold of a Drew Stubbs. If not, he'll still make a quite valuable 4th-5th outfielder.'

well, let him have a break out year at AA if that is where he is, then if he can go up to AAA and keep it up, you can call him ready. So far, he hasn't done that.

Disagree on den Dekker. He is exactly where Nieuwenhuis was already offensively in the minors. Look at their career slash .280/.354/.463 vs .279/.347/.463. Dekker is a thousand times the defensive centerfielder Kirk is, gold glove caliber and range like you wouldn't believe. The other thing is that Dekker is also expected to grow into the better power hitter between the two. He should already be in AAA but there was a logjam there and he probably will be by June.

every pitcher has a rough day eventually. His first 2 starts were great.

Plus, the weather up there was brutal for baseball. Hard to read too much into a pitching performance when it is that cold. Some guys deal with it better than others.

Den Dekker? Needs to hit a hell of a lot better than he has been to be more than a 4th OF any time soon.

Gorski got roughed up last night, but after a rough start last season he ended up reeling off 10 quality starts in a row. Lets see what he does this time.

Jason Bay will be just a memory next season when Duda (LF), Den Dekker (CF) and Kirk (RF) patrol all three spots in the outfield.
