I know a lot of people care about the first game but those who are really concerned with seeing the Mets succeed should be more concerned with who is able to start the LAST game of the season and if that game has any playoff ramifications!

Who starts opening day really only matters to the ego of the guy who makes it, after that it's just a game like any other!

Anyone that thinks Johan is going to start on opening day has to relax. I doubt that was ever an option. To make that decision after four innings of spring training would be ridiculous. Johan never had a ton of velocity either, so I'm not sure why you're concerned about his velocity. He is coming off shoulder surgery so he is on a schedule - they aren't going to let him rip until they know he's good and ready. Besides, his out pitch is his change up. While the threat of a fastball generally makes a change up more effective, Johan throws his change up so well it wouldn't matter. Anyone who has played the game can tell you that all you need is 4-5 MPH difference from fastball to change up and you can be effective. All we should be looking at this spring is his control and how he responds to the increased work load every outing.
