Terry Collins Very Upset After Learning Tejada Is Out With Groin Strain
Terry Collins showed some “signs of frustration” today and was “visibly upset” according to several reports after he learned that Ruben Tejada had been scratched from this afternoon’s game with an apparent groin injury.
Mike Puma of the NY Post, reported that it “pushed the Mets manager over the edge.”
A visibly irritated Collins said: “Shocker. It’s not serious. It doesn’t have to be here. You need an aspirin, you’re off for the day.”
“We’ve got three weeks from Wednesday [until the Mets break camp], we’ve got a lot of time,” Collins said. “I’m just getting tired of going in the training room, where I’ve got to sweat to see who can walk out of there. That’s all.”
The Mets now have 11 of the 54 players that are in camp dealing with a wide variety of injuries with the vast majority being muscular ailments. Some of the players like Lucas Duda (back) and Anders Torres (glute) recently started playing games again.

This guy is losing his grip… Sooner or later he’ll explode and revert back to a time ticking bomb we all expected hhim to be… this is not good news.. specially with this team who will lose more games than win..

as usual Alex you are right on, he will be fired again just like he was in houston and anaheim for losing he cool and the players trust. just another sandy failure.
So now if Collins does poorly this year that’s another Sandy failure? Does that make Willie, Jerry and a host of coaches, scouts, etc that were fired under Omar his failure?
Technically, wouldn’t he be a Omar failure too, since he brought him into the organization to begin with? Just saying.
Hey, is Omar still on payroll as GM? You could blame him there as well.
$30, will. why not just cut to the chase and buy me a BMW?
He’s losing his grip? How? Did he yell at anyone? Did he throw something? Are the players turning on him?
Or are we taking Mike Puma’s word that Collins is really upset with the injuries rather than slightly annoyed but getting pissed at the stupid questions from reporters?
Don’t know if Tejada is slowly getting into Terry’s doghouse, considering he could not be contacted over the winter when the Mets wanted him to come for an early workout and had not rectified problems with his visa so to arrive in Port St. Luice earlier as Terry wanted (though he was not officially late in reporting, either).
Not exactly the behavior one expects from a still unproven kid being handed the shortstop position. Maybe it’s not like the behavior of Lastings Miledge, either, but it’s certainly the behavior of one who might not realize he’s showing a bit of disrespect for his manager’s authority.
Cedeno sidelined now with knee tendonitis.
So no Ruben, no Ronnie – who plays SS? Turner?
Please tell me this won’t be 2009 again.
LOL. I think his name is Quentin Terrintino or something.
Just another sad reminder that the Mets have no bench strength to replace injured players and keeping that thought in mind, was it so wise to not have retained Jose with back up insurance in the form of Tejada both at short and at second?
Finances made that option non-existent from the beginning – not baseball and definitely not rebuilding for a player like Jose who just led the league in hitting is not washed up at the age of 28 (and would be only 30 in 2014, the year projected for the Mets to begin coming back strong via the fruits of that rebuilding).
And if was due to the health issue, that didn’t seem to bother the organization when it came to Carasco, Young, etc Let’s put the money issue aside — those spots could have been filled by others more healthier (and eventually were with Young being shelved for the season and Carasco sent down to the minors) – not to mention the fact that we have huge holes in our starting pitching and bullpen of which the last I understood, having healthy players in those two positions are as important as having a healthy one at short.
I guess because CarASSco and Young didn’t cost 106 million plus the price of a box of chocolate. lol
Guess it was the chocolates that broke the camel’s back.
Reading Rubin’s expanded interview with TC concerning these injuries.

He’s definitely frustrated and you could say not long on patience. And he knows it.
Take a deep breath, Terry. It’s going to be a long season.

Collins doesn’t seem to get too upset when the Golden Boy David Wright is out for an injury.
Metfan Lou — C’mon, one guy has already shown his work ethic, the other hasn’t yet. Personally I’m glad Wright is being slowed down by Terry. In the past, Willie and Jerry used to call David a ‘grinder,’ as if he didn’t need rest despite the fact Wright was his own worst enemy by never wanting to rest. It’s a good move now.
Yep Sandy had better hope Tejada doesn’t miss 30 games this year or he will be eating his breakfast egg off his face!
What?
The season is still weeks away and already you bloodsuckers are looking to hang someone out to dry. Any one who knows baseball must realize what a good job Terry Collins did last year getting the most out of a team that was pretty bad. In addition he handled the situations brewing with the soon to be leaving stars, Carlos Beltran as well as Jose Reyes. Bringing up the past as far as Terry’s former jobs serves no purpose. Terry is well aware of what is ahead for the 2012 season and will deal with it. It would also be wise to stop bashing Sandy Alderson. He is here for as ong as he wants to be. He was brought in by owners who are not going to sell (NO MATTER WHAT ) to keep the ship afloat during the next few years AND TO REBUILD SO THAT THERE ARE A SERIES OF PLAYERS COMING THROUGH THE SYSTEM TO KEEP IT STRONG…
There will be no more QUICK FIX trades that are high risk and no more acquisitions of players on their last leg.
