Pelfrey Pitched… Yikes!
Mike Pelfrey, armed with his new attitude, improved sinker and all his bravado, got his first start of the spring today against those pesky Miami Marlins.
Here’s his pitching line…
2.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 HR, 0 K
Don’t worry, it’s only March, but damn if it doesn’t feel like the same old, same old. :-(

Yeesh. This is why you can NEVER buy the hype about Mike Pelfrey improving anything in his arsenal.
Oh well, hopefully this could be attributed to first game nerves.
Big Mike is nothing if not erratic. So I take this spring game as an omen that he’ll likely be better next time out. Keep your chin up, Craig. Good times are coming!!!
He wasn’t erratic…he threw everything nicely right down the middle.
If his name was Miguel Pelfrito, Alex68 would be already in here explaining how he hasn’t been given a chance yet, and that somehow Sandy and Terry ruined him.
Hahaha +1000
LMFAO.
Too funny.
Well non-spanish people like Maniac and others have said that Pelfrey was rushed up and some people think that’s the reason for his performance so you already have people saying that Pelfrey was ruined. I personally don’t by that, I don’t think it made any difference but this is not what i think of Pelfrey – it’s about Desmond L playing the race card and saying that alex68 would have given Pelf excuses if he was hispanic. I don’t think he would have, I think alex would be saying the guy stinks anyway. And NJStuckTex, Hitman, & saltyballs all agree with Desmond. I think that’s pretty sad.
Alex is also not a big fan of Ruben Tejada. Should he be according to those 4 guys? And he always bashes Omar for castillo & perez, like a lot of other people – Alex also hated the Francisco signing and called him crappy and said Mets should’ve spent the money on Broxton/lidge/cordero. Should alex have liked Francisco more for some reason?
I remember that he always hated Alex Cora too.
Notice I have not been playing this game. Alex has often accused others of this so he is getting his reward. However, if you were playing this game it might be more prudent to name the non-Hispanic players he likes.
Valdespin clearly stood in front of the catcher on purpose. Judging by everything i heard about this kid..and seeing how he carries himself now..and pulling that stunt this kid is going to be big time bad news and I would try to move him in a deal if possible.
I just look at his body language and there is nothing i like about this kid but now with Havens hurt..AGAIN..mets don’t have as much flexibility to move him
You mean you don’t like players that act like Hanley but only have a fraction of the talent?
Unless he has an awakening he’ll be 4A forever.
It wasn’t on purpose IMO. I’ve seen Valdespin off balance after swinging and winding up on top of the plate quite a few times and it really looked to me like he just didn’t know what to do when he wound up there with the catcher trying to throw. I know that sounds strange but then again why would he be trying to shade the catcher in a ST game, and not just shade him but stand right in front of him? To avoid a strike ‘em out throw ‘em out when he missed the pitch on a H+R? Not impossible I guess but his swing frequently carries him over the plate.
He missed the pitch on a H+R and was off balance like he often is after swinging. Check him out you’ll see he does this often.
In that case, I am more concerned that he is so unbalanced on his swing. Can’t be helping him.
According to Terry Collins it’s Josh Thole’s fault. Didn’t you read his comments?
Aaron Heilmann is back with the Mets.
Big Pelfrey… mid season form.
Some guys have the heart of a lion but sadly thats not Pelfrey. He has the heart of a mouse.
Heart or brain?
The very definition of 10 cent head. Looking forward to the nontender next year.
At least Pelfrey is consistent…you know what he’s going to give the Mets every start.
As for calling the Marlins “those pesky Miami Marlins,” when are the Mets going to be “those pesky New York Mets?” The Mets have finished in 4th or 5th place in 7 out of the past 10 years, with the Marlins only finishing beneath them once out of those 7 years…shouldn’t the Marlins be saying the Mets are the “pesky” team? I mean, that is what you call an inferior team who occasional annoys the superior team by playing tough, right?
I watched the game. Was far from impressed, even though I know it was his first ‘real’ outing of ST.
Nothing to convince me yet Pelf isn’t exactly what we just saw today.

He needs his mouthpiece back,,,, Give him a break he’s trying to control the ticks
Pelf is permanently snake-bitten. He will never do anything for the Mets. Hate to declaim as such, but he sucks.
The good news is that it only a spring training game. The bad news is that we have to look forward to him being on the mound 32 times when the games count
So glad we kept Pelf. Those are some valuable innings he eats. Nevermind the crooked numbers the opponents put up. Nice job Sandy. 5.4M well spent, when we’re “broke.”
Get your tickets today!!
Understood, who did you want him to sign for that price?
Victor Zambrano
Do you mean Carlos? Been there with Victor.
l for another .6 Mil he could have gotten a second closer who can’t make throws to first base!
Well, Jeff Francis sucks a little less than Pelfrey and was half that price if I recall correctly.
I never understood the loyalty to Mike Pelfrey. He’s below average and he gets treated like he has talent.
People love kissing Pelfrey’s ass because he won 15 games ONCE and believe he can do it again. Fools….
Yeah I don’t get it. They should convert Pelf to team envelope-licker.
