Lol, Got you.. But still, i don’t think comparisions should be make about a the talent of a player with another player.. it’s not even fair to the player.. IDK about you, but i LOVED brett, he was my favorite player (guess back then i was a KC fan as well). He was an all time great and it was a pleasure watching him play, he was someone who made everyone around him better, to make a statement like that it’s very bold, considering in baseball it’s not always talent, but will to be great, heart to suceed etc..

It’s a different era in baseball where top prospects come up mid season or later than in the old days so in some ways it’s a reach comparing 150 AB’s to 500 AB’s, none the less production is what the majors are about and the production in those few AB’s did equal some of the all time greats at the same age. Not the same thing but not the complete opposite either.

Bodes well for the kid IMO.

Yet I don’t see anything wrong with what Buck said. While I hate it when anyone compares a kid with a great, to say he has as much talent as someone is not a far stretch. Talent and production do not always match and he obviously says he has a long way to go.

What I am laughing about is how this still turns into a saber nonsaber, Sandy nonSandy, debate. This place is getting old.

Let’s be honest – all our projections for Duda are based on hope and not inside baseball and thus one assessment is as valid as another.

Have pitchers started to catch onto to his weaknesses which will cause a dip in production? Or has he caught on to those on the mound which could mean becoming a force to be reckoned with at the plate.

We know what he has the potential to do by what he has shown. Now we’ll have to only wait and see how he and those on the mound adapt to each other. One thing – don’t have him run into Ike Davis on a pop up in-between them – that means a third party should be on top of the play to call one off from the other unlike Ron Paulino (did the computer tell Sandy that Paulino had the know-how to take charge in such situations?).

trs86, i think so as well, i mean, comparing a hall of famer and one of the best players in the game with a kid who’s got nothing but 150 at bats is pure comedy.. I mean, no wonder buck martinez is out of baseball, he’s part of clown city in bristol CT… I think the kid will be good, but already mentioning him and brett in the same sentence is an INSULT…

The thing it really points out to me is how important it is to develop your own strong SP. Because when you have to trade for it, it costs guys like this.

For Lee also (since someone mentioned him early). Phils gave up that catcher (“D’around (I know I spelled that wrong) that the Mets would love to have, and that was not a cheap young guy.

And SD got a haul back for Latos.

Arguing this minutia about Lowrie is just silly, but he is a really good looking young player. And cheap. So perfect to build around (part of your core foundation). And if strong young pitching can get you a couple of these, a fine way to build a team (after keeping the pitching you need of course!)

I just don’t see him dropping that much across the board from last season.

So, what will he do in a full year (not sure where you get 120 games from, so say 140 minimum):

.285/25/95, with an OPS plus in the upper .800s (say .875). And every one of those numbers could be higher.

“.260, 20 HR, 75 RBI, slightly above .800 OPS” – My Duda projection. Sorry Metsie but I don’t see that as an insult at all. That’s a very solid sophomore campaign, and the fact you are trying to claim I’d predict better if he were on another team is laughable.

What’s your projection for a healthy (120+ games) Duda?

Sorry if I’m not buying into a 30 HR year for Duda yet, it’s unrealistic in my view. Can it happen? Sure anything can happen, but to sit here and scoff at a lower projection which is more level headed is wrong

He was traded for a catcher (remember those?) a middle infielder and two pitchers.

Time before he was traded he was traded along with Grady Sizemore and Brandon Phillips for an ace in Colon.

he didn’t just have a September taste. He put up significantly better #s than that in a full 1/2 season. Plus he had some acclimation time the year before too, so he really is not a green horn any longer.

So, I am not expecting him to regress across the board like that. But, we shall see!

Guys,

Look at how this conversation about Lawrie is going. It’s coming down to whom he faced in what innings against what team? Doesn’t it sound ridiculous?

I think we can all agree that Lawrie showed great promise in the short time he spent with Toronto last season and seems to have the potential to make it as a star in the majors. But it’s that chart comparing his short sample of stats to the greats of the game – that is what has gotten all of us going at each other.

In other words, we’re losing sight of Lawrie and making it more a debate about sabremetrics and not understanding we’re transferring one for the other. It’s more about Jayson Stark than debating whether or not he is a flash in the pan, the next coming of Babe Ruth or anywhere in-between.
