Mets Opening Day Roster Is Pretty Much Set
With David Wright back in the line-up (1-2, single) and Scott Hairston and Andres Torres looking like safe bets for Opening Day, it seems to me like the 25-man roster is seemingly set:
Starting Line-up
C- Josh Thole
1B – Ike Davis
2B – Daniel Murphy
3B – David Wright
SS – Ruben Tejada
LF – Jason Bay
CF – Andres Torres
RF – Lucas Duda
It looks like we’re good to go here for Opening Day. The possibility that Jordanny Valdespin or Matt den Dekker would get the nod at center field may have been premature, but it was a fun discussion while Andres Torres was healing up.
Bench
C – Mike Nickeas
IF – Ronny Cedeno
IF – Justin Turner
OF – Scott Hairston
OF – Mike Baxter
From what I’ve been hearing Adam Loewen only makes this team if Scott Hairston goes on the DL, otherwise it’s Baxter’s spot to lose and so far that hasn’t happened. Baxter would have to be added to the 40 man roster, so Josh Satin or Zach Lutz could be cut.
Starting Rotation
SP1 – Johan Santana
SP2 – R.A. Dickey
SP3 – Jon Niese
SP4 – Dillon Gee
SP5 – Mike Pelfrey
Yes, I slotted Pelfrey in the 5th spot. If it came down to one pitcher getting five more starts over the course of the season, I’d rather it be Gee. Of course that could change if performance dictates it. It’s also nice to know that Matt Harvey is waiting in the wings.
Bullpen
CL – Frank Francisco
SU – Jon Rauch
SU – Ramon Ramirez
MR – Manny Acosta
RHS – Bobby Parnell
LHS – Garrett Olson
LR – Miguel Batista
Olson and Batista would have to be added to the 40 man roster for this to play out. Jeremy Hefner and Armando Rodriguez would be the likely casualties. Olson is just keeping the spot warm for Tim Byrdak who should only miss the first week of the season. It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that D.J. Carrasco will start the season on the DL.

Alex Torres”"”????? Craig, typo there..
Man, Freud would have had a field day with that slip.
looks reasonable. Though I would not mind seeing Edgin instead of Olson.
Just lets get the games started!
Not that I actually know when opening day is though…
Sorry that Lucas May didn’t make it.
Good to see Wright back in the game today. 1 for 2 with what was describes as a sparkling defense play that involved hitting the ground at some point. Yikes….don’t want to hear about aggravating that injury. Guess Wright only knows one way to play and that’s all out.
Looks like Johan pitched right around 88 pitches with majority strikes.
Velocity was a bit down from last two starts and had a rough 1st inning. After that, he looked pretty good.
Nice to see the offense show up today. Ruben has been looking pretty good this spring.
sandy to the HOF with this roster he build, the mets are just laughable under this leadership. how many ways can you say last place, thanks sandy.
