Mets News: Stoner and Niesen Among Nine Players Released Today
The Mets have released nine players from minor league camp today including: RHP Tobi Stoner, LHP Eric Niesen, RHP Nick Carr, LHP Roy Merritt, RHP Chris Hilliard, RHP Ronny Morla, RHPSteve Winnick, 1B Lucas Stewart and CF Chase Greene.
Stoner, a Mets 16th round pick in 2006, and Niesen, a Mets 3rd round pick in 2007, had been on few Mets top 20 prospects lists back in 2008 and 2009, but have declined sharply over the years.

I used to watch this guy and shake my head. 85 and he got swings and misses. He just knows how to pitch. I watched him last year and he is very smart. What was not smart was not getting surgery 2 years ago when he first got hurt. latst year’s injury was inevitable. So might the next injury be. Guy throws right over the top. He might stay healthy and could be very useful to the team. Just a 1 year sign, though.
Oops! Wow—I meant this post for the Chris Young signing post. Excuse me.
Niessen and Stoner got swings and hits. Holt will be on this list next year.
Holt pitched much better as a reliever. Maybe he’ll find himself as a relief pitcher. There were 3-4 different mock drafts that had the Mets taking Jake Odorizzi with one of the 2 picks that we had after Ike was taken. He’s had his ups and downs in the minors but he has an electric arm. I wonder if he was ever on the Mets radar.
