Matt Harvey Tagged For Five Runs In One Innning
In what can only be described as a disastrous first inning against the Washington Nationals this afternoon, Mets starter Matt Harvey allowed five earned runs including home runs to Jayson Werth, Ian Desmond and Roger Bernadina.
Even opposing pitcher Stephen Strasburg hit Harvey up for a single, as the Nationals batted around in the first inning in a 7-hit barrage.
Harvey threw a total of 46 pitches in that inning, and was replaced by Justin Hampson who took over in the second inning.
Just a blip on the radar for the Mets prospect and it happens to the best of them…
Shake it off, Matt.
At last check, Mets down 8-0 going into the third. Yikes.

Exactly Hojo, just shake it off.
Jason Bay out of game due to bruised right forearm.
does this qualify as the silver lining to the game?
Though as much as I want Bay to just go away, at this point, there is no one to replace him.
Don’t remember this happening to Seaver of Koosman or Gooden in spring trainings past.I’m willing to give him a mulligan if he admits to performing his Mike Pelfrey imitation today.Would have tuned in on TV to watch.Thank goodness game only on radio. Can’t wait to hear the excuses from Collins and Alderson and Warthen.I thought they overhyped Mejia when he was healthy.Probably overhyping Wheeler and Familia too.Ike Davis first young player since Reyes and Wright to live up to hype and he almost had a freak injury destroy his career. Not to worry, Fred the thief now has solved his Madoff problems and will try to get us to a World Series for the 3rd time in 34 years. Can’t wait!!
Why would anyone have to make an excuse for a minor league pitcher who’s seen very little major league action?
Mountain, molehill much?
gary s. — Aren’t you a bundle of joy? Maybe you want to return the four season’s tickets you purchased. lol.
Wheeler, Harvey and Familia keep getting hyped like the next Seaver, Koosman and Ryan
but what about the possibility that they are just Gentry, Matlack and Swan?
Interesting: A Justin Hampson sighting. Looks like there’s a third horse in the race for the final Mets bullpen spot.
who is that? I honestly can’t remember hearing the name before.
But based on how he pitched, I won’t be hearing it again soon!
He’s an ex-big leaguer working his way back from injury. He spent last season pitching at Buffalo, and had a very good year as a lefty specialist. He took objection with something I wrote about him though. I tried making it up to him by asking him for an interview, but he declined. Here’s a piece where I mentioned him from last September: http://metsmerizedonline.com/2011/09/prospect-pulse-buffalo-2012-help-on-the-way.html
This whole game has been ugly so far.
Harvey obviously didn’t have it. Hard to say what the problem was b/c it’s not live.
Only the Mets could let the opposition score 2 runs on a 3rd called strike which should have ended the inning.
ST for the MiL guys too. Go to AA/AAA, work on his stuff, and come back when he is ready.
Of course he had a bad outing. He was spotted sitting next to Big Pelf in the dugout.
Harvey will be fine. Also this is the time in spring training where pitchers start to go through their first dead arm period of the season. Almost always two weeks or a week before the season starts.
Shutup all of you. Let him start in AA dont bring him up till next year JESUS CHRIST DONT YOU GUYS LEARN?
WELL AT LEAST THE METS BATTLED IN THIS ONE
According to the news reports he was ‘Amped Up” facing Strausburg and wanting to show the team he belonged in the MLBs…
When your focus is on things other than your routine thats what happens!
Metsie, from “amped up” to “beatdown”.. Not a good recipe for success..
yeah buit’s pretty much the same reason why he got rocked in his first start!
Trying to do too much hoping to impress and instead of impressing depresses everyone!
If you feel you belong then no need to go out of your way to prove it!
A lesson most kids need to learn truth be told!
If you feel you have to go out of your way to impress thats a sure sign of a lack of confidence because your basically saying my normal routine isn’t good enough!
