In comparison the Phils say Ryan Howard will wear a boot for at least another week. Utley is only taking BP and lil else and Brown’s thumb injury is not that serious. Yankees had a pitcher starin his ankle and Dontrelle Willis has arm soreness.

That said I’m not too worried but I do feel that a guy with Duda’s frame and build is very proned to having future back issues!

6’4″ and 255Lbs frame carries a lot of momentum and puts a lot of stress on the spine!
Not saying it is a sure thing but when I see a guy that big one of the first things I think about is having him work out to build up those back muscles to handle all that stress!

Seriously though, big difference between a middle aged guy being in baseball shape and a kid actually getting paid to play the game today.
Not sure what the difference might be from back in Keith’s day compared to today but most of those guys didn’t keep in shape over the winter. They’d show up for ST not-in-the-best-shape-of-their-life.

The obliques are mostly around the abdominal area (basically border the abdominal muscles), extending a bit upwards There are several other muscles in the rib cage area as well. With the generic “rib cage soreness” diagnosis Wright’s injury could be an oblique one as well, but it could be to one of the other muscles. The way they are describing it it seems like his injury is higher up above the oblique, but I don’t know.

Either way I think the prognosis is similar and depends on the severity of the injury. It’s all the twisting and torque involved in swinging a bat in particular that can make those injuries to the core obliques, back, ribs, abs, difficult to deal with and easy to aggravate.
