Alex, I liked him from what he brought the Mets. He was on pace to have a great season until he got injured.

I also think he would be an option to consider if somehow anyone in the rotation (including Johan Santana) is out for an extended period of time.

Sorry Chris, but I’d personally rather sign the country music singer than a starter who has pitched a total 120 innings over three years due to three consecutive years of arm injury. It’s not personal, it’s strictly business.

Not even worth the cost of a minor league contract until he shows he has something facing live batters. Let him come as a spring training invitee as long as there is still a spring training left. That’s what the Mets extended to Lucas May and if that isn’t good enough for Young, then let him sign with someone else (and how many other teams have actually shown an interest?).

Come on now, what are the Mets a rehabilitation center? Some writers have Generation 2k starting at Bingo and moving up to Buffalo by season’s end. That leaves alot of AAA pitchers with the choice of performing or getting out of the way. The best of luck to Young but we don’t have room.

Honestly assuming the deals of the contract you can sign him without even seeing him but put opt out clauses and conditions in. Basically only way you get paid a dime is to pitch.

Thing is Alex that he will basically be free. How much do you think he will get paid on a MILB deal if he never even makes it to May?

Maniac, I liked it too, i am not saying young is a bad pitcher, i am saying why again go into the same road? we’re broke right? why spend money on someone who will most likely get hurt and miss all year? why not go after guys who will pitch at least half of season if need be? the guy will cost us more money to do nothing… why not go after kelvim escobar while we at it~?

I just don’t see any way he gets a guaranteed ML deal from any team. But, on a MiL deal (which is what extended ST would be), nothing to lose. Can always include an out clause for him in case he wants to leave.

Really no risk that way for the Mets, and if he does manage to come back for any length of time, it would work out well.

they could use some more experienced depth, and if he is ready by say June, I am sure they will have a need in there somewhere.

Not even an MiL contract!

If money is tight buying lottery tickets is not the way out of it!

EVEN if he does prove to be ok and back to being an effective pitcher
What is the point as it sure won’t be enough to make this season a winner and by October he will be looking for REAL money just like Capuano did!

It’s not a help to the future, might even be counterproductive by hurting Gee and I see no reason why we shold keep trying to salvage a season we gave up on starting last July!

I dont think it’s a bad idea. We could catch lightning in a bottle and I liked the signing last year as well.

He’ll likely command less than what Rauch got which would be a nice deal for us. I have a hunch that now that he finally got the surgery he had been avoiding for 2+ years, that his issues could be behind him.

Explain to US why exaxctly this is a good idea??? seriously, i have never seen a guy be loved soooooo f’ing much after pitching 22 innings for a team… The thought of bringin this guy again is an absolute JOKE, I don’t care if we pay him 50K a year, he’s not worth it, my god, can we just move on already???
