Nobody has an obligation to pay these players anything and certainly, the players don’t feel they have an obligation to return what they were paid to do if they underperformed.

I personally wanted to see none of the owners ever offering such ludirious contracts and once I felt they were finally coming to their senses, they were found guilty of collussion.

Pelfrey is not getting a multi year contract with this team (thank goodness).

No one, especially me has ever stated that all prospects make it. That’s why you need to keep, or take back when you have the chance as many 1st and 2nd round picks as possible. For that exact reason.

Counting on just one prospect for every position is what is killing this team just like Phillips busting on 15 out of 17 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft choices killed Minaya’s chances.

It’s not how many make it, it’s how big the one’s who do make it by and the best place to find the guys who make it big are in the 1st and 2nd round. That’s where you pick up the Brian McCann’s, Mike (Giancarlo) Stanton’s, Josh Johnson’s, Curtis Granderson’s, Jordan Zimmernan’s, Joey Votto’s, John lesters, Scott Baker, Andre Either’s, Yovani Gallardo’s, Dustin Pedroia’s, Kirt Suzuki’s, Freddie Freeman’s, Hunter Pence’s, Yuniel Escobar’s, Trevor Cahill’s and Justin Masterson’s,

The last guy we drafted that did anything in the Majors from the 2nd round was Todd Hundley 25 years ago but before that we got Magadan, Mookie and Mike Scott. The players are out there we just haven’t gotten them, other teams have and there’s three reasons for that. Drafting for need, drafting for cost and giving away our first and second round picks in exchange for guys in most cases we can’t even give away at any price

Rustich was drafted for cost and for need. One of four college relief pitchers taken in 2007 in the top 3 rounds and all of them are busts, not just Rustich which begs the question with so many needs on this team year in and year out why were even considering drafting college relief pitchers? Relief pitchers can be bought without giving up draft choices on a year by year basis. Those above mentioned players can’t be which leaves us at the mercy of the free agent market for guys like Bay, Castillo, Alou, or trades for guys like Schneider and Church. Even those few times that one of these guys does pan out it’s just for a short time and at least as often if not more you regret signing the guy as soon as soon as the ink is dry.

Even those 2nd rounders that don’t pan out are attractive trade chips while their in the minors while we couldn’t get rid of guys we gave up our 2nd rounders for anything except salary relief.

Sure if Pena, Davis, Havens, Ratliff, Kirk and Fern had all worked out as best you hoped we’d be all set right now but prospects being the way they are rarely all do work out the best way possible. That’s why you need more of them, not less.

Arguably if we had just nabbed two of the guys taken in the 2nd round mentioned above since 2002 our season would be looking a hell of a lot brighter than it is right now and our past probably wouldn’t have included two near misses of the post season as among our best seasons, in fact we probably don’t miss at all and maybe win a Championship along the way.

Either way we don’t have four first basemen in our starting eight like we do now and either does anyone else simply for the fact that they do get good players from the 2nd round.

The guy isn’t really all that good a negotiator his biggest contracts all involved getting a NY team to make a high bid and then shopping that bid to other teams who could hardly afford it to try and get more!

Should a major market team be spending more? Yes but that doesn’t mean they have to be giving a Boras Client stupid money!

And if he really wanted to see us spend more maybe he should start offerring contracts that could be voided when the player isn’t earning his keep!

If one picks busts, you move on to the next one. If that 6 year $100 million deal doesn’t work, what do you do?

Kind of like having more ping pong balls in the NBA draft lottery. Doesn’t guarantee a top pick, but it sure helps the odds of getting one!

Having top talent striving to get the big payday is 10 times more effective than opening up yet another senior citizens center for soon to be retired wealthy athletes.

Also lets apply this to business, because Boras is a big market agent he owes it to the clients to make less money?

And I fully expect the closer role to be up for grabs to an extent, and somewhat fluid this year, regardless of how was annointed #1 ont he depth chart. prior to opening camp.

Now with spending limits imposed on signing amateur talent and the considerable buyers remorse of so many expensive free agents he’s getting frustrated and trying to embarrass the Mets into resuming their old ways.

Silva, Werth, Perez, Dunn, Figgins, Furcal, Milton Bradley, Crwford, Neagle, Coleman, Bonlla, Whitson, Brown, Deifort, Lowe, Andruw Jones, Strawberry, Albert Belle, Pavano, Lackey, Crawford, Bay, Rowand, Burnett, Hampton, Mesch, Sexton, Beltre, Griffey, Soriano, Morris, Zito, Jason Schmidt, Aramis Ramirez, Mo Vaughn, Millwood, and GMJ to name just a few.

Now that the perpetual con job victim has seen the light Boris is running scared that he’s only going to have one bidder for most of his clients and that can only do one thing.

Lower the dollars.

To spend at competitive levels or perform at competitive levels? Boras just gave his motive away. The guy just wants to make more money from a slice of a bigger pie. Ignore him

Of course Boras wants teams to spend top dollar for FAs, same as any other agent.
Teams scaling back, developing more from within – is going to hurt their pocketbook.
Wonder if Boras is seeing a pattern here and getting just a tad nervous about it?
