Eric Niesen On His Release
I know this is a little late coming, but I wanted to pass along this quote from the recently-released Mets prospect Eric Niesen. After the positive feedback that was received in response to my interview with Niesen this past summer, I asked him to give us a few parting words as he leaves the Mets organization:
I just wanted to tell everyone thanks for the support over the years that I was with the Mets, and even though I am disappointed at this time I know God has a better plan for me. His promise in Proverbs 3:5-6 says
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.”I will continue to use my baseball talents and see where God takes me. He will amaze me I’m sure.

Thanks for the story, Clayton. It is bittersweet and I hope Eric winds up a winner somewhere on a baseball diamond. If not, then he’ll surely find satisfaction in his life outside the diamond. Life is bigger than baseball.
No future. You can’t roster a guy named Niese and another named Niesen. It won’t work.
Sounds like this young man has faith in when one door closes, another one opens.
Best of luck to him.
Too bad for this kid, he often was injured, i had such high hopes for him.. but i guess the new front office is starting to clean house in the minors to get the players they want in..
I too had high hopes for him but he just did not get it done and they were out of room where he would need to be. He couldn’t handle AAA and no room for him in AA.
As an aside, the Mets have also released 2008 2nd round draft pick bust OF Javier Rodriguez.
This just in….
the Jets have signed him to be their 3rd string backup QB! LOL
On a more serious note I hope the kid does well and catches on somewhere.
